Neither of us has had, or will get any sort of inheritance but quite frankly I don't need it. My parents were old fashioned working class; my dad worked on the track at Vauxhall making car seats (he died aged 45) and my mother stitched hats at home on a Singer sewing machine. What they did give all three of us was an appreciation of education and a work ethic. When we first went to school we were well ahead of our years in reading, writing and maths and as we grew we joined the Scouts land learned many of the essentials of life that way. We are now going to probably have to leave a reasonable amount of money to someone somewhere (as long as we don't have to pay for health care in the future) and this is quite a responsibility. We don't have any children of our own, through choice but have lots of great nieces and nephews. Or do we give it to a good cause? Nice problem really. Good thread altogether here.

My present plan is to divide what little is left between my niece, nephew, Sue's daughter, RNLI and Midland Air Ambulance.
Sue's other two can go whistle...

We have no kids, nephews, or nieces, so unless all the property needs to be sold to fund long-term care, or a young couple want to 'adopt' us, I think there are some cat and ferret rescue charities that are going to get a bit of a windfall when we go.

That just makes me think of Bill Bailey's brilliant Rock Opera "Insect nation"

What about the worms?
They're eyeing up your car, yeah.
How could a worm drive a car you say?
Two on the pedals, two on the wheel
And one on the A to Z
It could happen!

All the legal stuff is sorted; but as I get older I am far less interested in acquiring more "stuff"
Perspectives change. Most of the time I wear a Swatch watch. I have looked at bigger, faster Morgans, but am quite happy with my 4/4.
Very different from the socially competitive environment when I was still at work, when all that stuff seemed to matter.
