Id like to see one "in the steel" next to the old configuration.

Thanks Mario that really puts it in perspective.
Wow, the lower lights do look "cleaner" from this angle, but talk about blocking airflow!

Apparently this is the origin of that fugly configuration.

This is really stupid from the USA authorities. If this auto cycle is as wide as a car, safety commends that its headlights be positioned in a way that show its wideness.

But I guess Morgan 3 Wheeler owners in the States will happily put the headlights back where they belong. And they'll be safer by doing so

Thanks, I was hunting around last night trying to find what the source of this was. So not just the m3w going forward that's coming here state side, but also the previously purchased ones are on recall because of this? At least if I'm reading this correctly.

I hope that dealers here don't get into any sort of trouble if they opt out of performing the recall modification when someones three wheeler is in for service.

Sounds like some writing to this Gregory K. Rea guy is in order. I mean the line itself of "we believe that the greater than allowed distance between the headlamps might hinder other motorists from identifying the subject vehicles as motorcycles." absolute absurdity right there. The only thing I can give credence to here is the headlight overpowering the turn signal, which I guess is why a lot of newer cars where the headlight is close to it will actually turn off a light while the signal is on.

But still, who would want to be mistaken for a motorcycle in a vehicle that's over 5 feet wide at the wheels. Jeez.

The last six words of this excerpt, taken from the above government link are what will save us current owners.

Today's denial requires Morgan to notify owners of the subject vehicles of the noncompliance and to remedy the noncompliance if and when a vehicle owner presents a vehicle for repair. Neither NHTSA's denial nor the recall and remedy requirements impose any obligations on vehicle owners. Today's denial simply ensures that vehicle owners will be notified of the noncompliance and will have the opportunity to have their vehicle remedied, if the vehicle owner so chooses.

Is this change because of a few parking lights melting? When Morgan misses the boat??? Well fine, OK, Make it an option give us a choice, give us a vote. Is the old dash configuration still available? Can't Morgan spend engineering time on stuff that matters--like howling bevel drives?

Read the link, hbatts. In December 2013 the US government went after Morgan for not complying with a Motorcycle Headlamp spacing rule. Morgan argued against it and lost. This new headlamp system is just Morgan complying with the ruling.

I would leave the original headlamps in their normal position and place two small side by side headlamps like in the Polaris Slingshot centrally in a cosmetic way. This would meet the presumed motorcycle two headlamp distance regulation but also show oncoming cars the width of the M3W and for the most part preserve its looks.

I don't dislike it.

It's just a shame that it obscures that view of that beautiful engine flicking one massive v-sign out the front.

I don't like it. From the front, it changes the balance of the look and leaves a large empty space between the engine and wheels (But may improve the CD by a good .01% smile ). From the side, it increases the visual length of the vehicle, even though they are still behind the leading edge of the front wheels a bit. And I like the look of putting the engine first, out there for all to see, and this just diminishes that look in my view.

Mainly, putting large lights there just flies in the face of good air-cooling common sense - with all that open air up there, why put them right in front of the cylinders? So I think they did the best they could, all things considered, but it's a compromise I personally will look to remedy immediately upon delivery.
