Hello, I have just joined TM. We have are thinking of driving to Skye from the South West which is a long old drive. I wonder if anyone has any info or tips about driving on Skye - like are the roads suitable for Morgans as they are very narrow and are all the ferries to the small islands accessible for a Morgan. Look forward to any feedback. From Julie

Hi Julie,
I did a 2000 mile tour of Scotland on mainly B roads in May 2015 including part of Skye. The roads were very good. In some remote parts they are single lane with passing places, but the surfaces are generally good so no worries for a Mog. Much of Skye has two lane roads.
I used the free road bridge from Kyle of Lochalsch but also used the small Coaran Ferry (Fort William) and there was no problem on driving on or off with my Mog. I thoroughly recommend the trip. Enjoy.

Just for mention - The Corran ferry crosses Loch Linnhe, The Kylesku ferry is the one that crosses over to Skye. Shortest ferry journey in Scotland. Worth it just for the roads to it.

The turntable ferry (the last one still running) from Glenelg to Kylerhea is well worth the crossing. It's a great experience...
And the roads to Glenelg and Kylerhea are interesting... smile

Julie, at low tide you could get a "ching" on the rear tailpipe (passenger side left) when exiting on the Ardgour side of Corran ferry, the ramp has an odd angle. Ok at high water.
Happened to me twice, suggest you get your passenger to walk off, if that does not get you into too much trouble.

Hello Julie, welcome to the wonderful world of Talk Morgan and Morgan ownership.

Skye is beautiful and a great place to tour. I've enjoyed several motoring holidays there but never in the Morgan. The roads I found to be good. Obviously narrow in some places but not so much as you may fear. Being extremely old( and therefore extremely wise) I remember my first crossing to the island by the ferry at the Kyle of Lochalsh which did ground the sump on my car of the day. But now they have the lovely bridge so no worries! You will have a great trip I'm sure.

We were there in 2014 and had two nights on Skye. The best weather was the day we left but we will return at some stage. The roads were better than we expected!

Few years ago I visited the Talisker Destillery on the Isle of Skye. I remember nice roads, great scenery and an impressive landscape on the maniland too.
We drove a bridge, no ferry needed to get to the island.
