I visited the mosquito collection with the MG owners club when I I had a Midget.
In those days you could get under the bomb bay & look inside.
amazing planes with a very small cockpit I visited there in ~98. One of the docents / guides had been an apprentice on the prototype and let me sit in the cockpit! Sure that wouldn't happen today (I think it is being restored anyway).

A lovely sight (and sound).
I came across an interesting Herman Goering quotation: "It makes me furious when I see the Mosquito. I turn green and yellow with envy. The British, who can afford aluminium better than we can, knock together a beautiful wooden aircraft that every piano factory over there is building, and they give it a speed which they have now increased yet again. What do you make of that? There is nothing the British do not have. They have the geniuses and we have the nincompoops. After the war is over I’m going to buy a British radio set – then at least I’ll own something that has always worked." It is interesting that back in 1938 when the design brief was being finalised for the Mosquito, Geoffrey de Havilland suggested that wood should be used as it should remain plentiful during the war, rather than building it out of difficult to source "strategic" materials. De Havilland already had the technology to do this from the DH88 "Grosvenor House" twin engined racers.

De Havilland already had the technology to do this from the DH88 "Grosvenor House" twin engined racers. Just in case anyone is unfamiliar with the DH88:

Apparently a bigger influence was the thought to make a bomber version of this but with 2 Merlins...
