I guess I just need to know what speakers fit, I'll see that at the factory I guess.

The standard speakers are cheap and nasty, go to a decent ICE shop and get them to fit some decent ones. The speakers are the most important part.

Keith do you have a recommendation re. speakers which will fit mechanically instead of the original ones?

The holes in the panels for the speakers only accept 4 inch speakers so the choice is limited, I bought an expensive pair from Halfords, can't remember the make but they were the most powerful and best quality they had, they worked and sounded great,

Do you know how deep the speakers can be? I've spotted the jbl gto429, 4 inch speaker but it looks quite deep.

Heinz, no sorry I haven't bothered yet as I don't use the radio but on a Discovery I had the sound was dreadful. I took the car to a local ICE shop and they replaced all the speakers with high quality ones and the difference was amazing.

Sorry, I can't remember either, I remember the wiring loom is close to the speaker on the drivers side, You could always gently press a sharp ended tool into the carpet where the hole is located and feel for the outer skin, this will give you an idea of the depth (if I still had the car I could have removed the speaker and measured it for you.)
