Every diesel I have owned has been a nightmare. Always waiting for warning lights to come on for EGR or DPF faults and that was on a BMW. Changed it for a later petrol engined Model and the insurance was lower and never had a problem since. And you haven't got Buddy Rich under the bonnet either.

I totally agree with all the comments regarding mileage and small engines and we have just changed Janet's Audi convertible A3 from a diesel to a petrol TT.
This made total sense based on her annual mileage of 6k.
But I'm looking for a car that is economical for general use and good for long trips as we are hoping to spend Jan and Feb in Spain enjoying the sun and golf. We would get the ferry to Santander then drive to the apartment near Marbella.
I think we will get a better idea how things are going from the budget tomorrow, if the tax on diesel is increased then I will have to reconsider and get a 330I.

Very pleased with my diesel. I had vowed to stick with petrol but I'm glad I went back.

If going for a big diseasil ask yourself a question.

Will you intend to use it in Cities?

If the answer is yes, will those be one of the Cities the beardieweirdies are considering banning Diseasils in?

It would be difficult to see any grounds for banning Euro 6 diesels at this time. If they try to justify banning new diesels they would have to explain why the same ban should not apply to the big V8s hide

No direspect to the O.P, nor to the learned discussion thus far. I must confess, however, that I was a little disappointed after reading the title that the thread wasn't about this sort of thing...

Well it is impressing but I have no idea for what it could be used, or is it a kind of art?

I am planning a visit here this summer.
www.internalfire.com
I only found out about it late last year when it was featured in a program about diesel engines. They have a working Sulzer....the first diesel engine.

We have a friend who is a ship's engineer in Denmark. Every so often he sends me information about big ship engines. Apparently the ship is built around the engine these days and the engines are built in modular sections.

That's the first time I've heard of that museum. Sounds brilliant.
