The gear change on the new Aero 8 is much quicker than on the older cars.

Tarka was the development car for the paddle shift and subsequent Sportsters, but it seems for the Aero 8 S5 there has been further development.
I was told it isn't possible to upgrade Tarka.

Considering that the "block" engine+gearbox is always the same one (I doubt that BMW is still developing it) this means trhat something must have been done via software.
If then, for marketing reasons, they do not want to offer it, that is a different topic.
McLaren, by paying, was giving this option if I am not wrong.

I would guess the only option would be to go to a tuning specialist for BMW, and have them custom write a complete new engine/box map from scratch via Live mapping.
They should be able to save the old maps as well.

August last year one of our party had a gearbox related problem and when we called in at a BMW dealer and their breakout software kept crashing. They were unable to do anything to help.

I would say that this is the fianl confirmation that MOG put in place at least a custom layer that is preventing using magic BMW "standard" tools.

Basically he just didn't want to take any risk because he had no idea what had been done or how.

That makes sense Peter.
