I know the UK's roads are shocking at the moment but is it just my car which seems to pick-up stone chips, particularly to the front of the rear wheel arches?

Not good when you've had an enjoyable quick blast only to find battle scars

Any suggestions on how best mitigate and to touch them up?

It's frustrating.

I had Ventureshield protection fitted to the Roadster after my experience with the 4/4.

So far so good! Seems to work well!

When you've touched up the chips, as Neil has done, I would get some protective film applied. I have Defendall on the cowl, around the headlights and on the rear wheel arches. Chipex do good touch-up kits which, if I recall correctly, consist of a base-layer, paint and a clear lacquer - and the means to apply them.

I think we are all agreed about the shocking state of the roads, especially bad in Bucks & Northants. The councils seem to want to ignore the problem completely. Yesterday on a not particularly spirited drive around Northants villages I could see a large pot-hole coming up on the left so went into the centre of the road to avoid it, and completely failed to see the mound of stome chippings that had been kicked out of a previous attempt at repair. The low point of the chassis cross-member caught the chips and slung them along the length of the underside. The noise was awful. Stopped to inspect. Nothing evident except chippings on the running boards. But when I got home I had to spend some time with a log-handled paintbrush sweeping bits off the chassis ledges

Its not a cheap option , but better than the horrible sound of stones hitting and denting the bodywork. I have sprayed some anti stonechip in the wheelarches as well as its a delicate area !

That's for the quick response.....so it not just me then.

I think some Chipex is on the cards. Hopefully it will help....



Madmax, what is this his product, sounds promising?

Go for a well known make of underseal/anti stone chip spray on can as the cheap ones are full of nasty stuff that flies into the atmosphere rather than under the wheel arch , I realised this after the first can !

I have a tin of paint on Waxoil, would that be any good?

Andy, chips are virtually unavoidable. Especially when the resurfacing with loose chippings is going on ( ). Touch up paint is a must. I spray Dinitrol under the wings. It stays pliable and offers some protection but not 100%. Have a look at DaveW sections on fitting mudflaps etc under the wings.
Even the clear films on the paintwork have limits for protection.

It seems I have some work to do....

I put film on my cars and still get chips. Even my current 4x4 I was most surprised to have a nice ding and chip right on the eye line from a stone.

I think when I had the 4/4 repainted I got one chip on the way home from memory!!

Not much we can do with UK roads unfortunately.
