It is not currently available but when it was was recognised as the strongest beer in the world. It comes with health warnings and a price tag of £35 for 375ml

Have tried it once. That was enough. Think somewhere between Marmite and bad whisky. Their other extra strong beer, Sink the Bismarck (41% ABV) was fairly similar.

I'll not be trying it, I rarely drink and it would knock me out. I do however, like their "Dogma", it tastes like cold coffee and Guinness.

It is really whisky.

Normal whisky is made by brewing beer, then distilling it to remove water to get it to about 90% abv, then diluting it down to 40%.

Freezing beer has the same effect, the water forms ice and can be filtered off from the liquid, which becomes super concentrated beer.

I do wonder if its unavailability is due to the interest of HMRC. When beer is made duty is paid on specific gravity of the mash, which is a predictor of the final alcohol content. When whisky is made duty is paid on the % ethanol in the distillate, so a much higher rate.
If the makers were paying beer duty and selling what is in effect a distilled spirit then HMRC would have been "unhappy".

You can try this process at home. As students we used to try it. Pour your choice beer into a plastic jug, freeze it and remove the ice crystals. Drink what is left.

It is usually horrible.

I have a bottle of that Brewdog beer in the fridge. Bought for me by sospan jnr. It has to be drunk like a spirit not a beer. A "unique" taste not to my liking and needs topping up with lemonade. The bottle is half full now after several months.
Some of their other beers are quite nice.

Ahhh, that brings back memories of my mis-spent student years.

Home brewed beer frozen into ice lollies.

Lick the alcoholic outside and discard when you get to the brown alcohol free beer bit cheers
