Mike Duncan changed Kingpins twice on my old car in the 11 years we owned it. As far as I know, he only changed the bottom bush both times.

Those reamers are very expensive. But a Adjustable Reamer with a rod welded on it with a cone might do one or two bronze bushes. Adjustable Reamer is about $25US. Cost of welding on a rod and making a cone??????? I use such a reamer on My plastic bushes all the time. But Bronze is not plastic.

Thanks for the reply. Removed both stub axles and king pins yesterday. Both show significant wear on the pin in the lower bush area.it has spiral bushes fitted so I can only assume the quality of the original pins wasn't that good
I have someone who will ream the bushes in for me once I have pressed them in the hubs
I am looking for some gators to fit the top springs to reduce road grit and water

The metal dust cover keeps most of the crap out Alan, which is why I never bothered making upper spring gaiters. But lower gaiters of some sort are essential.

At the moment I don't have any mohair so MrsW can't restart the sewing machine..............

A couple of short lengths of flexible conduit or a section of old inner tube will work just as well when cable tied in place. My old 4/4 ran like that for years...

Just thinking of protecting from the top end also.

I thought of trying the corrugated pipes from heater outlets or demisters. I got them on the bottom springs. Fitted by the last owner, and work well.

That is exactly what Mike Duncan fitted to our old car. The current car has DaveW special covers.

Here is two ideas I have used:
1. Universal Steering Rack gaiter - Slit, wrap around lower end and hold on with plastic ties.

2. Insert SKF grease seal 9815. Install them backwards with the lip down or up on the top. After all I want to keep the grit out not the grease in (at least that is not my priority). Hold them in with Red Loctite. Works for Me. Been using this system for a number of years. I do use Hard Chrome King Pins. Peter Mulberry sells them. Beware of stainless. Too many grades of hardness/softness and the ones I have seen are too soft.
