Possibly a daft question about oil filters.

Today I had the second year annual service on my GDI. Looking at last year's service sheet the dealer has listed the oil filter as "OIL FILTER 2.0I GDI 2014" whereas this year it says "OIL FILTER (FORD SIGMA 1.6).

Does this make any difference or is an oil filter an oil filter?

Cheers

Stuart

I strongly suspect the filter would be the same, but even they weren't I can't see there would be a problem.

In normal life these things would be in a Ford Focus or whatever and get changed every 12k miles or so. On our cars, they get changed every year at much lower mileages.

Have you queried it with the guy who did the service?

Stuart

There is a suggestion on the Mann Filter site that the two filters have the same fitting dimensions but the relief valve opens at a different pressure.

I will let you take up that lead if you are a worrier.

Many thanks both for your replies.

I only spotted it when I got home and as I have no idea as to what goes on beyond a car steering wheel I thought that rather than bother the dealer I would ask your good selves.

I'm sure it won't make a difference but I think I will send off an email just to be sure.

Cheers

Stuart

Stuart,
Thanks for highlighting this. Like you, I will admit that I trust the dealer to do what is required. On my last service I noticed that they had used fully synthetic oil whereas the requirement is only for semi synthetic. Obviously the full cream job is the best but is it really necessary or is it a waste of money?

Well, the dealer has confirmed that it is the correct filter.

"Instead of there being 2 or 3 different filters stocks have been merged and there is now a one fits all filter".

So that's OK then.

I think that Ford have been working towards this for a while. A few years ago a parts man told me that the 'Zetec' filter fitted most Fords. That filter was traditionally labelled EFL600. Now they have dropped this ref and added an unmemorable corporate string of characters.
