Hi all, coming up to replace the second half of my 96 +8 exhaust. Any thoughts on possible variations? Mine is too quiet, but don't want to go all out with no silencing at all. Was considering putting a new middle silencer in then out to side exit pipe. Anyone have that setup?

Advice welcome!

Alex

Is this your system?

On my 1987 +8 I omitted the rear silencer and fitted a straight through tailpipe which is not much louder than the original setup.

Yep that's mine MalcolmT. Both my silencers are shot. So removing the end didn't really make a lot of difference to yours then?

It didn't make much difference at all.

Mine was a Heart of England (John Worrall) sports system, which appeared to be normal system with a straight through tailpipe.

I posted the link to Harpers because John Worrall no longer does exhausts and the Harpers drawings are very helpful in identification of components

Never been able to get a reply from Harpers either. Tough to know then now, as it seems I'd need to remove at least one silencer to make any discernible difference.

email is the best way to get hold of Roger at Harpers there is only 2 of them there and one travels a lot, Steve is hands on the tools.

I've got a dual Librands on mine and it's noisy enough without driving you mad on a long run.
Somehow the side exits lose the V8 sound to me as you just hear 4 pots very close to you and miss the others (On a dual system).

My 1997 3.9 has side exhausts - looks like steam coming out of the ears on a cold day. The sound is a bit harsh under acceleration - like the blatter of a machine gun - but the sound settles down to a deeper burble when eased off.

Anyone know of a brass or steel fitting to enhance the appearance of the exit pipe? - it has an unfinished look.

Hi Nick55,
Try a local exhaust manufacturer, there are plenty about that would make or supply a stainless end pipe(single/double/oval/square/large/small)at a very reasonable cost.

I have just had the rear boxes changed on my 85inj +8 after 30 yrs usage, I had them done by a local fabricator and it is a really good job, if you email me I will send you some pictures.
I do not know how to post pictures on this site.

It's dead easy. Get yourself a Photobucket account, which is free, upload your photographs to it, then use the 'Enter an Image' button to paste the link to the picture into your message.
