Low fluid level for older M3W's is communicated through the brake warning light. U.S. wants it to have a separate indicator. But it's not mandatory. On the other hand, I put a note in the owner's manual that the recall had not been completed on my M3W. It's available--but as it stands, it is the same as delivered. I simply didn't want the extra light and felt I could manage a warning through the current indicator.

Don't really understand that reasoning. The original panel has a brake warning light within the tacho instrument. The same red light indicates hand brake applied or if not then low fluid level.

My information is secondhand, but two friends that have cars at for service are being told they have to have the new indicator installed.

Never heard of any requirement , in any state, to retrofit any vehicle that was legal when purchased.

I would agree. I dont know why you would have to change the existing system assuming it works. The new light is not mentioned in the owners manual, so i have no idea what it means if it comes on and stays on. It doesnt mention how to set the clock either.

little button on the lower right face of the clock, use a pen or something with a fine tip to push it. The clock will advance slowly at first, but will speed up if you hold the button. The new manual covers nothing on the new style dash.

Yes lance i found that on the VDO website. But as far as the lights function, thats a mystery. Heck my manual doesnt even mwntion the black button at the end onnthe indicator stalk

I have the immobiliser & the light for that when engaged is located above the flip up starter cover. So what would the additional light do that the one in the tacho does not? That one covers hand brake on or low fluid warning.

The light has flashed on long enough for me to see that it says "brake failure". I will top off the fluid and be done with it.

My M3W is a late 2016 with the standard dash. The small indicator above the start button is not obtrusive. Click on link below for pic...

On my standard dash the immobiliser light is on the unpainted alloy
