Hoho, look like one of the stories of my Aero!

When I took my Aero from the dealer in Devon back to Belgium, after 100 miles (and a refuel) the engine management light came on. I called the dealer who told me : "don't worry it is probably a false alarm, just continue, if the engine sounds normal, no need to worry about". In Belgium I went to the Morgan dealer who checked and reseted it (it was nothing), after 50km, the light came on again.
I have now done about 3000 miles with the light on..... sometimes it goes off by itself then pop up again.
The car goes for inspection again next month. (Also to change the newly discovered wrong tyre I have in front. one 245, and one 225)

John, I know it sounds basic but have you checked the oil level? You've just done a long drive (LOS) and I think it is worth checking all the obvious things.

If everything is normal, and the engine is behaving (ie no rough idle, down on power, in limp-home-mode), I'd try resetting the ECU. You do not need to disconnect the battery, you can use the switch under the bonnet that powers the entire car down (like a master circuit breaker). When I've let the battery die, my car will throw up faults and this is the way to clear them. The process is: pop the hood, hit the reset, leave the car for 5-minutes, push the switch back in, start the car and take it for a short drive. This resets the ECU and clears the error messages. If you have water ingress or genuine issues with the engine, this won't clear them; however, it can help if you have having 'ghosts in the machine' wink

Cheers Guys.

I spoke to the factory yesterday who confirmed what 109er had posted. I'd checked the fluid levels and these seemed fine. I'll try over the weekend a few more limited trips.

Given my nearest dealer is 60 miles away I've called in a favour at our local BMW dealers who are going to stick it on the laptop on Tuesday. If I understand the BMW diagnostics correctly the car will decide if it needs to advise you of a fault, if not it will wait until the next service. I suspect the Morgan / BMW interface has removed some of this fuzzy logic.

Should add that the car has now clocked up almost 5,000.

Hi John,
any update? Do you know what Lotus drivers do with engine management lights? Cover them with masking tape! I wouldn´t do that to an Aero though.
Gday,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Seems to be an issue with the S4 aero having spoken to a couple of other owners away from the forum. I took the car to my local BMW dealer yesterday and after speaking to the factory they managed to communicate with the car. The error message appeared totally random relating to the fuel venting line on an M3.

Having spoken to the factory I've been told that as long as its running okay it should be fine. So I'll continue to use the car and get it to the factory when I can.

One of the owners I've meet through the aero club told me that the engine management light on her car has been on almost constantly. Hopefully the factory will have this resolved before Supersport production get into full swing.

I'd try but I've used it to cover the speedo while on LOS so I didn't get moaned at.

Just given me an idea which might be worth a patent. A sticker to cover the speedo which has the dial fixed a 30mph. I think the first sale would be to Hopwood wink

Asbojohn, please put me down for a 29mph as that would definitely put me in the good books.
