I took a look at my 2014 with 3000 miles today. No visible cracks yet. The upper tube with the welded brace, while not fully triangulated, certainly appears robust. It also has the diagonal C shape member (the one supporting the steering rack) which goes from the front of the upper frame tube diagonally down to the rear of the lower frame tube. Thus the upper frame tube is braced horizontally and vertically. Hopefully Morgan also switched to a heavier wall tube when they became aware of the issue. Not sure about the forces on the lower frame tube, it supports the motor and the motor torque pulses, as well as the suspension loads.

I still feel that MMC is missing the boat by not having a front upper connector bar from the front of each tube to the other.



A front cross brace would add a LOT of strength to the front upper tubes. Just a thought.

I wonder if the structure for the new headlight configuration here in the US is also taking that into consideration? Or if that was just the easiest way to incorporate the silly headlight location.


Makes me curious to know if the bracket itself, sans headlights would be available and how much difference this would make. On its own if it adds some structure that could be a good thing for people who aren't forced into this headlight configuration, it isn't too obtrusive. And could possibly provide a convenient hard point for some aux lighting.

Dan, I have to agree with you, anything to stiffen the structure and dampen the deflections has to help. A big X frame at the front would be ideal, make it part of an "X-Wedge" motif. With a big skull in the middle of the X!

What is a bit hard for me to believe is that this weak chassis situation could exist at all. In the year 2017, with the CADD and modeling capabilities available (and presumably employed) in the M3W frame design, there should be no trial and error involved, and no mystery!

The days of Colin Chapman removing a tube at a time until the chassis broke, then replace the last one you took out and call it good, should be gone forever from ranks of any but shade-tree mechanics.

Having seen the new US Headlight assembly at the Factory I must say that it looks quite good!

My brother and I had a good look at several cars from different angles and to my surprise we both agreed that MMC had devised a good solution.

Bear in mind that my first reaction on seeing the pics was negative.

But in the "flesh" the HLs look just fine.

One of things you have to see for yourself.

And I am not averse to changing my opinion when seeing things a fresh.

So chin up guys - I think this look will really catch on!

Let's hope. I'll still be ordering the original brackets, just in case, but if that mounting bar adds a good amount of chassis stiffness, at least there's that.

I heard from my dealer & Morgan have agreed to repair my cracked chassis under warranty even though the warranty ran out Oct 2015. My car was on its way to them yesterday. I have no time scale nor info on what they are going to do.
I have asked about having the centa compensator fitted & the clutch plate checked even though I have no clutch issues.
