Last stayed here about 40 years ago but now, starting to plan a tour this summer, I thought I would have a look with a view to staying there again. It was a great place at the time and it looks now to be even better with en suite facilities, which it didn't have last time.

Clicking on TripAdvisor I see here there is a photo of a 4-seater parked outside. Can't read the reg plate, but anyone we know or anyone on here claim ownership?

When we stay in Grasmere we usually walk over the hill to Elterwater for lunch at the Britannia Inn.

Have gone over for an evening meal a few times. Very friendly place. Nothing fancy at all and if you have a dog or two they are very welcome as well.

We love the Lake District and have a timeshare lodge on the Langdale Estate, the Britannia Inn is a few minutes walk away and gets another vote from me. SWMBO is French and always thought that English food was rubbish, seven years after her first visit to the Britannia she still raves about the food there and sites it as an example of how good English pub food can be.
We'll be up there in August, can't wait.

Indeed. Although it is a long time since we stayed there, what sticks in the memory is as we were enjoying a late afternoon drink a young man walked into the pub carrying a large pike he had caught. Needless to say pike was on the menu that night, and it was delicious.

Wainwright's Inn in Chapel Stile is another pub nearby with great food.
