Cheers,

Graham,
when you say go up one grade of oil, do you mean go to a thinner oil.
The correct oil for the dampers is already very thin?
The dampers need to be more flexible or more action in my humble opinion? just a thought!

Nope.
Thinking of one grade thicker. Already, if there is any extra weight, bar my excessive 20 stone (approx grin2) the diff will hit the removable cover board over the rear axle on the '76.
So if I'm off on a photo session with most if not all camera gear, or with SWMBO, or we go away for a few days/week there is quite a lot of contact between diff and board.
Mind you, my dampers might need a bit more of a tweak (replacement?) than just heavier oil... Or better still perhaps I should lose a few stone! rofl

Graham,
Thanks for your reply.
when under my Morgan in the inspection pit in my shed, I have noticed that the Morgan springs are almost FLAT.
The clearance between the underside of the spring and the chassis is very little?
How can a company design a vehicle like that and sell it to the unsuspecting public?
If any extra weight is applied to the spring it goes into concave deflection and handling and suspension travel become dangerous and none existent.
Has anyone raised the two ends of the springs to gain correct curvature of a standard spring?
if this was done ,then perhaps some resemblance of normal travel would become apparent and then standard telescopic shockers would be of some use and we would regain suspension control in the rear (the car).
Peter

Sounds like they might have sagged a bit Peter.
I'll check mine sometime (but it may be a few days, a bereavement in the family will delay things a bit...)

Cheers,

They have definitely sagged, Peter - which is normal for a car of this age. Distance between removable cover board and axle housing on my about 20 years old springs is 80 mm (I don't give you inches as I learned that you despise old techniques :-)).

@Graham
Why losing weight when you can change to springs with 5 blades from the Fourseater??? Don't help ruin the pasta industry!!

Cheers
Frank

80 mm ? are you sure of that, maybe we are talking about different things? 80 mm? do you mean the removable plywood lid over the back axle etc? mine is a 2 seater and behind the seats is a plywood cover. Is that what you refer to as the "cover board"?
my springs are 5 leaves BTW
BTW No 2 , I changed to metric over 40 years ago before I left the hallowed shores of the old dart.
metric is so easy, made my working life in the building industry as a builder so much easier in every way, shape and form. "Just a thought".

Would using rear dampers with integral springs - i.e. Motor Bike rear end type help the problem? (or is that another of my daft ideas?) No sure if there are any standard ones around that would fit? idea

Hey Frank
that is an original idea.
that is fantastic . happy3
wow has anyone ever tried that type of conversion? read
Wow is all I can say.
you are a lateral thinker Frank, we need more of your calibre in the world.
Lets get this idea moving, I remember that my older brothers BSA gold Flash had that type of spring set-up back in the 60's.
come on DaveW, get the grey matter working at top speed and lets post results? listening
maybe the Morgan factory has not even thought of that idea?
do you think that Charles Morgan is aware of such brilliant developments and ideas from this forum?
who could contact him and plant the idea?
Simon the great maybe?
