Looks like hard work...but worth it. I must get to work on Nero 🙄

How do you find the M5? I took the plunge and downsized from my EOS 1d a couple of months ago and considered the M5. I got tired of carrying weight around. Went for an Olympus OM and am very pleased with the results. And no aching shoulders!

Let me tell you how to make your car look as shiny as Tarka... Happy to come over and mentor your modern car cleaning skills...

1. Muckoff Bike Cleaning Spray. It is pink...but that can be overlooked as it works so well. Spray it on the wheels, wash off as instructed on the bottle. Then spray it on all the forward facing surfaces that are covered in road gunge and dead insects.

2. Bucket of warm water and your choice of car shampoo. I use Autoglym because the bottle isn't empty. When it is I'll try Maguires.
Shampoo the car down: I use a microfibre mitten, not a sponge.

3. Dry the car with a Microfibre towel of your choice. I use B&Q's big yellow ones.

4. With Maguires "Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere" dry wash go over the car, as instructed. You will be amazed how much muck comes off:Water washing is only to remove obvious grime.

5. With Maguires Ultimate Quick Detail spray, go over the car as instructed. This lifts even more muck, which surprises me every time.

6. Polish the car with a new, clean microfibre cloth.

6A if you really want to you can polish the car with Maguires Ultimate liquid wax, I didn't as the sun was starting to come onto the car. This last step adds about 1 hour but the result is stunning. I'll so it this week.

7. Admire.

8. Now clean and treat the leather. I use the stuff that came as part of the MB Star Guard car care kit, because I think it works very well and doesn't leave the leather slippery.

9. You will have a big collection of used microfibre towels and cloths. When the boss isn't looking put them in the washing machine with a good quality detergent on a warm wash, and wash. Then tumble dry and fold, ready for the next time.

All this took me about 1.5 hours on Sunday morning.

Now the car is clean and polished I'll only use the Wash and Wax spray and the Quick Detailer for the next few months, probably do a full wash and wax mid summer and then in the autumn.

VERY comprehensive Peter! Thanks for the step by step. I do occasionally do 2 to 5 but not frequently enough!

I'll seek out the Muckoff pink stuff you suggest as my elbows will need all the help they can get this time around.

On the subject of micro-fibre clothes; Halfords currently are selling a pack of 5 (decent quality) for £3.

Fantastic results Peter: I have become a big fan of Meguiars products, though I still use a new Autoglym Perfect Polishing Cloth for each polish application.
The used clothes get used for metal polishing, then binned.

I endorse Peter's comments about Meguairs Ultimate Liquid Wax.
Expensive, but I think worth every penny.
The shiny is superb, and you can put it on with the sun shining if you need to!

I tried Maguires "Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere" for the first time last week - just the dry wash, without first cleaning the car with water.

It's amazing stuff - highly recommended. The only thing I found tricky was that the spray's so fine it's easily caught by wind. Unless it's a very still day, next time I'll use it *in* the barn.

I hadn't thought of trying the Detailing spray as a next step - an interesting idea; I'll give it a shot.

For Muckoff try Halfords.

They do cleaner for bikes and motorbikes, not sure there is any real difference so I buy the cheaper one.

Muckoff also do a Protection " spray for motorbikes. the idea is you spray it over everything other than the brakes, then wipe off the excess. It protects and gives a soft shine on plastic. Works very well on the big V8!

They also now seem to do car products, wheel cleaner, which seems VERY similar to the bike cleaner and shampoo.

That looks stunning Peter, well worth the elbow grease!

I too am a Maguires convert.

Tried to arrange a TM visit to the Daventry works - but failed - "all slots taken this Spring and no more until 2018".

So will persist with this.
