This was my 2012 Duratec manifold. You can see the painted plate against the head, and the blown over 4 into 1 section.
That's a long bolt you have there, Dave! Not like you at all unless there is something that is missing.

That's a long bolt you have there, Dave! Not like you at all unless there is something that is missing. I'd guess that in other (Ford) applications, the OEM manifold has a thicker flange plate, so the studs are long enough for this. If the studs were cut down, the removal of the star-profiled end would mean you couldn't easily remove them if a nut became seized.

I'd guess that in other (Ford) applications, the OEM manifold has a thicker flange plate, so the studs are long enough for this. If the studs were cut down, the removal of the star-profiled end would mean you couldn't easily remove them if a nut became seized. I meant the bolt in the bottom right of the picture, not the manifold studs. It might be a bit of overkill to shorten the manifold studs.

Dave: is there a heat shield between the exhaust and the wiper fluid tank?
My wiper fluid pump stopped working and blew the fuse several times. I assume it is related to the close distance to the exhaust pipe and the emerging heat.
Did you install the heat shield yourselve?

Infinity Exhausts in S Gloucestershire built my stainless manifold. It’s now a nice mixture of blues and straw colours

I have Rover standard cast iron manifolds on my Plus8. A small amount of surface rust. I cleaned them with a scotchpad soaked with Pepsi. The acid in the Pepsi was tried to help cleaning and convert the rust. Worked fairly well.
It might also work on steel but probably not on stainless.
A couple of weeks ago I re-did them but tried brushing on some Kurust. They went a nice dark/black colour and I am watching to see how long for.

Thanks TMers. I used a combination of all ideas.
1. Remove the surface rust from the manifold plate with a combo of wire wool, sandpaper
2. Clean the pipes and welds with kitchen foil and Solvol.
3. Mask up manifold pipes, studs and nuts
4. Treat manifold plate with Kurust.
5. Remove masking tape and clean brass manifold nuts.
Excellent results - just a well cared for look without going over the top.
PS. Don't know how long the Kurust matt black look will last , but definitely worth a shot.
