A topic for much discussion and a tournament I cannot wait for!
Just seen the squad announcement! Great as Jack Nowell is included, he live up the road!! Some surprises but overall a strong team to challenge New Zealand.

Strong looking squad. As always, some excellent players have found themselves sidelined, but then that's always the way with Lions squads. It's going to be a very tough tour. I can't wait !!

Surprised on the inclusion of Dan Biggar, and the exclusion of Joe Launchbury? Other than that i'm pretty happy, think Warburton is a good captain I have already booked the tests off work and the pub opens at 7am!!

I think Warburton deserves the call, because of his overall experience, but his knee injury is a worry. I'm slightly surprised that Gatland picked Jamie George over Dylan Hartley, as he might have been useful to step up as captain if Warburton's injury recurs.

Yes agreed, however i think he still has minor temperament issues!! Excited to see Daly, Hogg and Nowell linking up, Farrell at 12 and Sexton at 10

As I understand it, his selection of Farrell is as a fly half, though I far prefer him at 12, and I'd pick Sexton over him at 10 anyway. I guess Farrell gives Gatland flexibility in his selections, as indeed does Jared Payne who is equally handy at fullback or centre (presumably that's why he was chosen rather than Mike Brown - or it maybe it's because Payne was born in NZ, Gatland thinks it will annoy the Kiwis more).
I'm really sorry for Joe Launchbury - he had such a great 6 nations, & must have thought that he'd done enough, but I think Gatland is probably right to take Alun Wynn Jones in his place.

hmm, well, I'm sure Warren knows what he's doing, and picking individual players on their merit.
Otherwise, you might have expected a few more than 2 players from the world's 5th ranked side... 16 players from the strongest Northen hemisphere side makes sense. 11 Irishmen is understandable. 12 Welshmen is a surprise.
