I have just spent three quarters of an hour trying to poke my index finger through the spokes of my wire wheels, but I still can't get them properly clean. What's the secret?
(And The meguairs brush doesn't reach everywhere!)

When I had wires it was a twice a year full clean with top ups inbetween. Stainless wires so no issues with a pressure washer. Routine was. Wheels off. Pressure wash was from inside first. Pressure wash from outside. Spray on diluted Bilberry juice, agitate with a paintbrush. Use a tar remover if necessary.Smallish round brush made getting into nooks and crannies easier.Rinse off. Polish. Least aggressive polish I could get away with. This was easier after previous cleaning sessions. Microfibre cloth to remove polish. It can be worked into and around tight areas. Wheel wax applied with cloth. Buffed off with microfibre. Bottle cleaning brushes are also usefull for getting into tight areas. Your fingers will ache after pushing the microfibre through and wiping tight areas. Accept the fact it is time consuming for the full treatment and admire the end result. Surprisingly it is not that long a job, even for all 5 wheels. The spare, if not used, just needs top up cleaning.

Sospan,, many thanks. Between times, the wheels get a fair amount of dust on them , which won't come off with a blast from the hose. I suppose this is down to bottle brushes between major cleans

Thanks to advice from TM I use a five inch paintbrush.
Works a treat - well the best solution I have found/ been given.
You can raddle the brush between the spokes easily and the bristles reach right though.
Hope this helps.

I'm a fan of Autoglym custom wheel cleaner, certainly adequate for sprucing up between major cleans. Spray on, agitate with paint brush, leave for a couple of minutes and rinse off with hose. Job done and not too much driving time lost.

Muc off. Spray on, leave 5 mins and hose off. Lifts off everything. Brilliant stuff. Nick

A black whire wheel needs little service. Black street muck covers all the rust...

You could always swop to alloys. See the minilites topic! Alloys in winter for essier cleaning. Wires in summer for visual.
