I'm a big fan of red burgundy too, but the price can be a bit steep.
May I recommend the Louis Latour Domaine de Valmoissine Pinot Noir ? Made in the Var by one of the most famous Burgundy houses, it's a fine wine, and represents very good value compared to the stuff from Burgundy itself.
Some of the Loire Reds make for very pleasant summer drinking, and may even be drunk slightly chilled. Red Sancerre or Menetou Salon for example, or Saint Nicholas de Borgueil.

Red wine? 2007 - Le Mans 24 Hour. Famous for the fact it absolutely chucked it down with rain for most of the weekend. Sat in the relative shelter of the Cowsheds with other Morgan Vagabonds; one of whom had been to the local supermarket and bought an extra large wine-box for Euros 5.99, I can't say it was of the highest quality, but after a couple of glasses, we didn't really care. It wasn't the quality of the wine that mattered, but the quality of the company with whom it was drunk. Good memories. ps Though, I do like a nice Crozes Hermitage.

I agree with Giles here , the bargains in France are to be found in the south. There are many really good houses who are now sourcing from Laungedoc , or Minervois, and surrounding areas because I suspect even the French are tiring of the high prices from Burgundy, and especially Bordeaux.
I have moved to Spain and Italy for my European reds, Australia and Argentina for New World ones. Whites are new Zealand in first place, but Spain and Italy have some up and coming real goodies nowadays.

Whatever Is going cheap in Aldi. Dear Jay, following your comments on Poorboys products the other day it would seem your are prepared to spend more on clean wires than booze. Although having thought about it, I do love any plonk with an award from the German Shop. Best Regards,

Anything more is rather lost on me.....unless provided by Gambalunga!
