Not much help with removal of the marine mastic they say maybe paint stripper and advise me to experiment - in the unlikely event of needing to true up a wheel the wire brush will do the trick.

I've used http://www.punctureseal.com/

No punctures so far (touching ash!)

I know the rim tape goes right under the bead on the MGB and it has no problem. I could definitely see against having that go up the wall, but to me it seems like a good application for making some DIY bands with the old tubes.

Maybe I'm just totally off base though.

Perfect answer to this issue and something dad used to do on his motorcycle spoked wheels.- obviously if the spokes are sharp on the inside of the rim causing the puncture, then they'll need smoothing in the first place. As for can puncture repair jollop, I know it's been used before but I'd only trust a patch on a tube as a repair. - Obviously it's different with a tubeless tyre. I carry both jollop can and cycle puncture repair kit.

I wonder how much variation there is in the tire bead profile from tire to tire or brand to brand. That could be part of the issue if the design of the bead is such that on some tires, the bead lip is not as wide, therefor not covering the entire spoke area when mounted? May be worth posing the question to MWS and/or Blockley.

Have done truckin-on, both have replied and showing interest in sorting some solutions. Sadly I was only prepared to cut up my old worn out Avon - NOT one of my new Blockleys. They are looking for an old one to do the research with.
