Yes I think you are right particularly as he sees the rev counter as a mere dashboard adornment!!! David

David,
Only you know how your son would react to being behind the wheel of your car and your judegment would count. I have to say that I have let my 53 year old school friend drive me car with me sitting in it and been very scared. Probably on balance a good experience for him.

Actually Tim ---sitting next to him driving at speed, I am comfortable. The real test is when I am not sitting next to him and say a clapped out ford full of young lads flies by (as happened to me last week) with all the stares and goading signs---would he resist?---would I have resisted at 21?---probably not!!!-----so ultimately that is why his use of the car will be for special occasions only---that way it will also be appreciated and remain a novel experiance to be savoured---as I have impressed on him, its MY jalopy and not his!

On the other hand ( and I speak as someopne who was lucky enough to be let loose on some quite exotic machinery at an early age) it's the only way he'll get it out of his system My old man's words to me ( after I'd bent his Healey 3000- in the drive of all places!!) were, " Son, you bend 'em- you mend 'em" It was my summer vacation after my first year at University and I then spent the next eight weeks labouring in the local steelworks to pay the bill G

My old man pride and joy was a 560SEC. For a 21 years old driver, that was a very attractive car....
I remember one evening having being allowed to use the car for a few hours, with an absolute promise I would be back at 7PM sharp.
My parents were going to the Opera Garnier in Paris and had to leave on time.
I don t really remember why, but I was late and gave the car a spirited drive. My parents were living in an avenue, with a runabout at the end of it. I remember going sideways with the SEC, tyres screaming, lost the car to my horror, went 360° and stopped, having avoided the kerb, in the opposite lane, all tyres smoking
By pure chance, I managed to avoid a Golf coming on the lane and the driver and his passenger were totally gosmacked and looking at this big car which just went spining
I then realised this was my Mom's car, and the driver was my dad, which was infuriated cos he was to be late at the Opera. He decided to take the Golf because I didn t came on time
After this, I haven t driven the car for a while, probably 30 years or so...
My oldest son, 23, has just driven the Aeromax for the week end covering 1.200 kilometres.
He came back on time, the car is in good condition, and I don t want to know what he did with it....

I won't lend my Max to my dad after he followed a "experienced drivers course" his fault: shouldn't have ordered a VW Carrera4 if he did the right thing (carrera S or GT3) then he could borrow it, but now....
Steven sold: M3W, Aeromax,V6, 4/4 4seater now: +fourLM62
