I put 24,000mls on my Sport in 4 years and never heard it pink once.

I'd get it plugged in at your nearest Ford dealer, they will welcome the change of metal.

A big thank you to everyone who has offered advice I do love the community here on Talk Morgan I will look at every suggestions and apply all to hopefully solve the issue. I will let you know what happens next.

Thought that I would give you all an update on the pinking problem.....

it's fixed and thanks to Terry Clarke at the Garage bar and grill in Durham who had experienced a similar problem with a rally car of his.

so the solution is a real simple one, Change the fuel for BP ultimate and not only did the pinking go within a mile of leaving the fuel station but the car is now like a totally different car running smoother than before and with so much more power too I just can not believe the change and apparently even though many fuel stations offer higher quality fuel it is only BP and Shell that have constant quality and don't vary that much from station to station.

Bobster, I agree with all you say about the ability of this engine when feeded with high octane fuel, nevertheless I'm wondering why your car has pinking when using regular petrol. If you will stay now with premium fuel, my question is only of academical nature. But for me it sounds as your knock sensor or which cause ever will not adapt the ignition timing to lower octane fuel.

I never had a pinking problem when I was using 95 octane but once I tried98 Octane Shell I never went back. It was the cheapest mod I did, along with the side exit exhaust and made it so much more fun. I couldn't stop r vintage the nuts off - which is exactly what that engine likes.

I found that my 4/4 suffered from pinking after its remap...but as Roger says the use of 98 octane cured the problem and the car ran much smoother .

Stayed with higher octane ever since.

I have had the vehicle checked out by my Morgan centre and everything mechanical checks out knock sensors etc so it would show that it is the fuel that makes the difference here having driven the car now for 300 miles + with the new BP fuel the difference is amazing as I said in my earlier post it is like a totally different car with so much more get up and go and even the engine note appears to be sweeter somehow. And I was getting great MPG originally but now with the better fuel I'm getting noticeably more MPG too. One thing is for sure that I will not use any other fuel in Her-Ladyship from now on. Now she is perfect in every way.
