Update on this after a "test" last night. After going from junction 9 to junction 11 of the M4 (12.7 miles) in very heavy rain at high speed there was slight dampness above the hood rail but nothing that would be noticed without putting a hand up there to feel it. My conclusion is that the distortion of the rail as it is now is of no consequence so I don't propose to strip it down just to fix that.

Don't know why you bothered to put your hood up last night, a spirited drive along the M4 with the hood down and a decent hat was all you needed

I had it up in the car park and didn't take it down when I left Steve. Plus I wanted to do that test before we go to Yorkshire in June and the Hebrides in July where from past experience rain can be a challenge and you can't maintain enough speed to keep dry using the aerodynamic method . Even on the M4 I was glad of it when the road was reduced to one lane just after J10.

Have to disagree with you on that one, got caught in the rain on the M25 this morning and had to stop at Clackett Lane to put top up as the slipstream was blowing the rain around to the inside of the windscreen and over the top of the screen so not only could I not see where I was going I was getting very wet too !

Yes, the aerodynamic method doesn't keep you completely dry although I used it many times with some success in very heavy rain on my old 4 seater and a few times in this one. The thing about a 4 seater with the old style hood (like Steve's) is that the hood takes a while to put up; so to stop and put it up gets you wetter than keeping going. Also the 4 seater windscreen is higher and provides better protection. On the newer 2 seaters with easy up hoods the hood is up so quickly that you may as well stop.
