My +8 alloy wheels (1974 car) are in quite good condition but looking very dull. I could get them professionally reworked but with a bit of time and effort I might be able to do this a lot cheaper myself with some buffing/polishing pads on an electric drill with the right type of polish.
Anybody had any experience with this?
I seem to have heard that the +8 alloy wheels are a magnesium alloy, perhaps this makes a difference?
All advice or experience gratefully received!

All advice or experience gratefully received! I think "Powder Coating" is the way to go. But don't do this until You get better advice than mine. Those early +8 wheels are unobtainable. You do not want to damage them.

I suggest you get some quotes on having them professionally done. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Depending on your location http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/ did a good job (remove tyre, chemical strip, blast, abrade as necessary, powder coat, refit tyre and balance) on my Jeep wheels. They are in Flaunden, Herts. Price a year ago was under £50 per wheel, for sizes up to 17 inch.

Thanks for the advice from all, I have tracked down a wheel refurbishment company which is not too far from me – may see what their costs are for a rework
