Unfortunately guys I did ask the Jag bloke if it was possible to have a tour round the factory, but it seems that currently they don't want to give a commitment until you've ordered a car. Maybe our best contact at Jaguar is Phil (Speedmog), what chances of a TM visit to Jaguar Classic Phil?

There's never a shortage of LHD cars for sale. I can't imagine Jaguar will be turning out hundreds of them so probably it won't affect donor car prices that much. They've been steadily rising for years anyway.

It will be interesting to see which panels they actually make in-house as it will represent a huge investment when all E-Type panels are already available from specialist suppliers.

Since they don't, or at least didn't, own the bonnet press I wonder if they've bought it from the current owners.

Are the prices listed including VAT ? Will the final cost be dependent on the donor car cost ?

Assuming the prices include VAT I would say that they are competitive.

Good news for me as I'm currently having a Series 1 4.2 roadster restored to factory condition. Actually I hope it will be rather better.

I'm afraid I don't know for certain the answer to the VAT question, it's not clear from the quote so I'll email them. The cost of the donor car is included in the price quoted.

Great news about your Series I 4.2 Roadster MPH, can I ask who's doing your rebuild? When do you expect it to be ready, it would be great to see photos when you get delivery?

Great idea but these are some serious numbers in a market that has had its ups and downs, anything could happen in the 18 months you're waiting who knows it could be worth £500,000 before it's even finished.

I wonder how many will get driven or if they'll be put in glass boxes to watch the price go up.

Not much. I cant see them selling more than a handful at that price level and there are lots of E types around. There were 4 of them at my recent classic car meet out of a total of maybe 20 cars in all. And talking to the restorers of these cars, they indicated a cost of 50 to 100k to do the restoration all to an excellent standard.

Cant help but feel that this initiative is just another indication of the classic car bubble reaching its peak. The collectables cycle has happened before and will happen again as the economy begins to cool down, house prices weaken and interest rates start to improve.

Howard , you may be right but this has been predicted for a long time now and if or when it does prices may stick or fall by 10-15 % but they will still be a great deal higher than they were 5 or so years ago . Then they will start going up again .

The sad thing about all this is just what are people buying classics for? Driving pleasure or purely an investment for tax avoidance? I've given up thinking about buying a classic that appeals to me....I just won't pay the inflated prices.
