Hi Howard, yes chalk and cheese as you rightly say.
I've had Lotus and 7's for years and years now so maybe it's the novelty but I don't think so.
Just sold my 7 to Oakmere so sevenless at present. Since I stopped competing I found I had far less interest in them.
The Lotus is a gem, no doubt but for road use and Sunday blatting you have to face it, you don't get near to what the car is built for primarily, that's not to knock it. It drives like a dream and has lovely road manners, but the urge is always there to open it up which with the roads of today is becoming very frowned upon indeed.
The Morgan on the other hand, as well as SWMBO liking it and also willing to go out in it is special, special in the fact that it delivers its ace card and what it was built for cruising and skipping through the country lanes at 40mph or even less.
No urge to prove any points to anyone, just a nice feeling of being inside the thing with its wood, leather and carpet smell and its little exhaust popping and gurgling.
Also, and yesterday was an example. We went to a little farm shop for some veg. I chose one 20 miles away for a scenic country jaunt.
Now when I'm out in the fully spoilered, mini Group C style Lotus people have a tendancy to "pretend" they've not seen you. I also notice some snarly faces if I'm honest.
Jeez, we were at that farm shop for over 40 minutes yesterday. Simply every customer who parked up rooted me out for a chat, every single one.
Even the farmers Mrs brought her tribe out to see it and everyone went home with pics.
Only really been out in it twice and the first outing was the same, nice people asking questions and obviously loving the car.
Not experienced this before with any of the many "odd balls" I've owned.
You could be right, the glow may wear off, however believe me, I don't go over the top with new cars any more and have become blase to an extent.
This little thing has renewed my enthusiasm for cars again in the most unlikely way.
