I think you're being a bit harsh on Cat302. If the car has a dashboard light that isn't working simply because the factory haven't thought of a way to extend the pc board led and if before the factory moved the board the light did function..... As it happens, you can't see mine even under the dash, you have to remove the lower dash panel to see it. Because I couldn't see one, and I was used to the one in my previous Mog, I had to call the factory to check as my insurance company insist it has one. When I spoke to the lovely people at the factory (and I mean that) we had a laugh and they said it was a situation that would be remedied shortly. Again, as it happens, I don't mind not having a visual cue, but some people might and it seems reasonable to expect it to function properly. So it seems to me he is justified in calling it "wrong". Had the car been designed differently then sure, it would be fair to call it a matter of opinion. Nick

I think a visual warning on the dashboard is a necessary indication and would imagine that the insurers would also, it is a basic 1st line deterrent.
My previous 4/4 Sport 2009 led was dangling behind the dashboard so it is taking a while to modify the looms.

Well I supose the dashboard must have just a lens with a connector in the back to push the LED into, (if the loom were long enough).
Rather than risk damaging things by levering it out I' d like to know if anyone knows what it looks like? Might be a proprietary item.
Then perhaps it would be possible to get it out and push the optical fibre in there, followed by the lens. Would it make it's way the back of the dash well so that I could grab it and connect it to the LED.? I haven't quite got the gumption to dismantle the dashboard..

If you remove the black fibreboard from the underside of the dashboard (about 10 small phillips) all will be revealed if you don't fancy taking out the dash itself. LED's are a push fit in the plastic housing (normally translucent) they have a shoulder which locates the correct height of it. If you do decide to extend the leads you need to observe the correct polarity, no damage will occur if you cross them over it just won't illuminate until you get it right.

Thanks +8rich, that's a good tip. I never like to cut into wiring I fear a Clarkson moment and a breakdown in the fast lane. However from what you say, I may be able to do the optical fibre fix

You cannot extend a lead from the functioning led in the module box to the position in the dash....unless you are willing to break open the module.
Many cars do not have a flashing led showing the immobiliser is functioning....for example both my Disco Sport and Mito.

Sadly it is just another example of MMC's can't be bothered attitude. They certainly have the style department intact, but Engineering and quality control departments don' t exist. I think the department in the MMC premises you are looking for is the Quirky Control Department. Easily confused by the ininitiated.
