Cheers Steve - been meaning to give Cain a call for a while anyway, I reckon it was before Christmas last time, makes me feel very guilty that 😀

Cheers John

When you all talk about CVH etc engines , what is mine ?

Is it easy to change myself without getting it badly wrong or best left to my local Ford dealer or the shop that did the work on my Lotus and repaired most of the Jags, Land rovers and Bently's down here, as there is no Morgan dealer?

Can anyone who has done it on one of these tell me roughly how much the parts and labour were, am assuming it's a gasket, belt and tensioner is all that's needed?

I just swapped mine to full Synthetic and changed the oil and filter back in January so that's fond at least.

Rookie questions I know, but I would rather a stupid question than a stupid mistake.

The original question was concerning an old Ford cvh design of the 1980's as found in Ford xr2 /xr3 ( non injection versions)

As such old mineral 10/40 is what they were designed to run on.

If you really feel the need to waste money ,you can use semi synthetic, but they were NOT designed for fully synthetic oils.

Your engine is a much later generation Ford unit.
CVH are robust, well proven non ecu / non injection engines.

I change oil yearly or every 3000miles.
Spark plugs every 2nd year.
gear box / different oils every 3rd year
but
my old fashioned car doesn't do high miles

I had a 4/4 from 1993 with the cvh efi. The "i" immediately added street cred!
A good engine. I used standard mineral oil, Magnatec usually. Annual change (7k miles max).
At the end of year1 I changed all fluids ( oils , coolant, brake). Nice to know their age/mileage. I also did the fuel system as the pump failed. A sensible( to me anyway) job on a car that age. New pump with protective filter. Flushed tank, new flexible pipes, new main filter.
Also new ignition leads and plugs( not expensive).
I was taught from an early age that skimping on oil changes was not a good idea. The small £££ saving versus a poor engine was a silly idea. Hence the annual change.
On my tintops from commuting days I did twice yearly. Spring and autumn.
Forgot......I use a vacuum oil extractor. Every 3rd change it is normal sump plug change though.

the Cambelt is cheap as chips & takes about 1/2 an hour to change so its a no brainer if you have concerns, oil and filter - same applys
