I have a pair of Laser Ramps. They raise the car about 100mm, just enough to make the job a lot easier.

Just googled them. Perfect, and perfect for the Lotus too. Will be ordering some now for sure. Many thanks.

As an aside guys, been on the Gomog site as suggested but can't seem to find the bits involving working on and greasing the 4/4. Cheers.

i don't bother with axle stands for greasing the suspension - I simply don't need to go under the car. Lie on the ground in front of it but don't need to go under.

However, the advice never to work under a car only supported by a jack (any sort) is absolutely essential. Anything more than simple and quick wheel removal demands proper support.

I'm a fan of my 4 post hoist 😄 And the jacking beam
But a jack where you mention, and axle stands once it's up works well, like others I'd never get under there with it just on a jack

Remote greasing points, limits the number of times you need to jack it up sherlock

This morning I was prepping for next weekend away.
Rear jacked up using a jacking beam similar to DaveW design. Axle stands.
Leaf springs sparayed with chain lube. Nuts/bolts checked for tightness. Brake linings not checked as done over winter and good. Adjusted the AVOs firmer as a test.
Dropped the car and moved to front.
Jacked up on centre of frame and axle stands under chassis/cross frame junction. Greased front, general clean up and bolt/nut checks. Front brakepads checked- loads left. Brake cleaner to clean discs. Car lowered.
Whilst the wheels were off they were cleaned. 15 years old and showing their age re the paint. They will be refurbed before winter. A chance to change colour? Hmmmmm.
Wheel wobble checked for...none found so bearings/kingpins ok. There are Mulfab springs that are losing their paint coating. I am considering swapping to Mulfab bearings with new springs. Perhaps a winter job.
The underside is looking good after some cleaning/cosmetics over last winter.
A nice Sunday morning job.

I really miss the inspection pit in the garage at my last house...

Kenny, the only reason I jack my 4/4 for greasing is to give me a little more space... smile
I use an ice hockey puck on the trolley jack.

Thanks Graham for that, and yes the ice hockey puck is a great little trick.

Hope you've been out for a blast today too thumbs

Me similar, but my (very ancient) ramps give me about 200mm lift which is more than enough to grease. Very safe as well.
