The V6 Ford engine in the Capri didn't run a cambelt though?

I thought they had fibre gear wheels as the Essex engine was fitted to my SE5A Scimitar.

They could and did strip of course, I was lucky and didn't have it happen.

That was always my worry in the Gilbern. They did a steel replacement but it was said to be noisy. Fibre teeth are ok until they shear. Timing chains are ok until the tensioners disintegrate, as happened to SIL's Golf V6.

I am becoming worried about the Junkyard ZETEC (1994) that is in My '61 DHC. No idea the number of miles, no idea how long it sat in the Junkyard. Checked the "How To" change cam belts on GOOGLE and come to the conclusion to do it sooner rather than later.

I stand corrected I guess. I know the top end went & he should have replaced presumably the gears earlier.

Oil filter £3.95, oil 10/40 ( comma oils) £14.95 from my local car spares shop

Time to change 20mins

I do it yearly every spring
somestick

the easiest job ever thanks to an external oil sucker/ pump

many of today's cars do not even have a sump plug !

Be thankful

My cam belt will be 5yrs old next year with approx 8,000 miles on it.
my car has 67,000 miles from new on a 1.6 cvh engine

My 4/4 is a 2011 so I suppose that's makes it a VTEC/ Sigma motor which I think needs the belt every 5 years too. So mine is definitely due.

When you all talk about CVH etc engines , what is mine ?

Is it easy to change myself without getting it badly wrong or best left to my local Ford dealer or the shop that did the work on my Lotus and repaired most of the Jags, Land rovers and Bently's down here, as there is no Morgan dealer?

Can anyone who has done it on one of these tell me roughly how much the parts and labour were, am assuming it's a gasket, belt and tensioner is all that's needed?

I just swapped mine to full Synthetic and changed the oil and filter back in January so that's fond at least.

Rookie questions I know, but I would rather a stupid question than a stupid mistake.

Pretty sure the later engines are 10 years John.

Yup, see this thread:

Richard (Easter) looked up the answer...

Cheers Graham, once again smile

Mine is just 6 years and 27,000km so all is well, that has saved me a few $'s for now. I can spend that on getting new tyres for the Lotus 51's summer season 👍🏻😄

Cain has just done the belt on his Cafe Racer. You could always get in touch with him if needed..
