Talk Morgan Forums Community The Malvern Arms Bugger, steering wheel damage on me new Mog.

I arrives home after a nice little car meeting and an after show blat and was just getting fly's and such off the car before tucking her up again.

I noticed then 2 scratches, deepish to the rim of the wheel on the right hand side at 3 o clock position. Scratches are an inch and a half apart and identical in form. From the front face of the wheel, through the centre strip around circumference of wheel and just touching the other side of the centre strip before stopping.......gutted was an understatement.

Anyway, the Mrs came to the rescue as she saw my distress and procured some coloured and good quality furniture wax/restorer which I carefully dabbed on and buffed.

Thankfully marks would now not be noticed if not told they were there, but I still know they are there and it will get to me everytime I see it now. 2 weeks old and this happens So two questions please guys

1) Am I the only numpty brained oaf in history who's damaged a wood rimmed wheel like this?
I've been wracking my brains of how it could possibly have happened and after discounting half a dozen possibilities I now believe I've nailed the cause and it will not happen again.

I won't say yet what I'm certain caused it, I'd appreciate some of you guys giving your thoughts on how this could happen to see if you come up with what I reckon.

2) As I say it's blended in well and now not anywhere near as angry as it was but I want it sorted. It's a Moto lita obviously.

Does it mean sending it back to them or do we have a specialist in our midst who could help? Any idea on cost please? I've not a bloody clue.

Always my luck Dave, stick a new pair of kecks on and I know a blob of grease from somewhere will find its way on to them......never happens to your old ones

Sounds to me like you've done a pretty good job already. It's just a bit of patina, something to mark the fact that you and your car have interacted, are building a relationship. As the years go by your car will accumulate others, it's inevitable if you are to use and enjoy the thing rather than wrapping it up in cotton wool.

You paid a lot of money for your car, much better that you relax, accept the inevitable wear and tear, and get the pleasure of owning it rather than keeping it nice for the next owner.

Kennyh it's patina forget it as it adds to the uniqueness of the car! That is if you think their prime purpose is to be driven ?

Tim a cracking reply and very much appreciated. Yes mountains/molehill's etc. but it was just a bloody shock to see them there. I am a bit of a polisher if I'm honest but do also use the cars.

Did you drop the hood on the wheel when raising the back of the hood. That is why mine has patina!

Thanks John. No, I did actually go with the hood on and took it off at the show, however it is just a lift off hood and I'm sure it never went near the wheel. Is yours an easy up hood?

Yep an easy up & the header rail causes the issue if the side screens are off.
