I did the same to my brand new Sport in 2009 to it's woodrim steering wheel with my rather heavy stainless watch bezel, I went through the normal mental torment and then settled for patina  .

We can make a new topic about wearing wedding rings, the pro's en con's...? Leave them off or on and wear gloves.....  I must say that I have fewer scratches from my ring in the Morgan (MotoLita) than in the tin tops, on the leather steering wheels. Strangely, that annoys me more than building up the Patina on the wooden ML wheel....!

Kenny I feel your pain. I'm unfortunately anal about such things and can let marks spoil ownership. I bought my car secondhand with lots of patina I hadn't appreciated.....I struggle a little sometimes.
Regarding your steering wheel marks, I've noted the ignition key is very sharp and now try to be careful when inserting/removing. Could it be the culprit?

I have a removable Moto Lita wood wheel. Once, when taking it off to get behind the dash, I dropped it. A small cut was made. I tried replacing the sliver that came off....no joy. It is at the rear so not visible. I sprayed clear lacquer onto it . I can feel it but not see it. I intend building up more coats of lacquer over the whole rim at some stage from the aerosol can I bought. Kenny.......dings=patina=character. Don't fret, just enjoy the car. I think of it as similar to my own patina! Wrinkles, creases, scars...The history behind them is irreplaceable.

You've nailed it guys. Had to be the signet ring on right hand. Was following my mate in his 7 to the show, only running in at present so no heroics but needed to keep close to the 7 on the twisties. I realised how slow the rack was and how big the wheel is compared to what I'm used to. Where I'd move 10 degrees either way on a Lotus/7 even for severe bends it was armfuls of crossed arm lock here this morning  Then I switched to "feeding" the wheel as opposed to the cross arm thing. When the wheel re centred I reckon it was hitting the .00000002232 carat diamond on the ring, the bugger has never fitted and sits right in the firing line of where the scratches were when it moves around. No more rings ever  Thanks lads for all the replies, nice one

Did you drop the hood on the wheel when raising the back of the hood. That is why mine has patina! Me too  I am now very careful about that. My bit of patina is no-longer as I had the rim re-wooded to match my new dash  I nearly always were gloves when driving with a wood rimmed wheel. Heavy padded gloves in winter, light leather gloves in spring and autumn, and mesh backed gloves in summer.
