Thought id share that an old friend of ours (sadly know longer with us) always drove his land rover defender with a sheet of plywood cut to shape over the top of the seat base. He always claimed it was most comfortable for his bad back much to our wonderment!

Funny you should say that. I found the fixed back fibreglass shell Probax seats in my Lotus really comfortable. And the leather covered padding cant have been more than 30mm thick

Not that this is the slightest help to the OP.

I have a bad back and have had 3 ruptured discs over the years.
I find the Morgan very comfortable but I have changed the mount so that the seat can go further back and have raised it a little at the front for thigh support.
The 4 seater gives a better seating position as you are sitting higher with your legs lower.
The worst position for me is driving on a twist where pedals wheel and seat are at angles. BMW's are a nightmare with offset pedals.

I suffer with a bad back, It's not the seats in the morgan it's getting in and out of the car.
I get in both feet on the ground, bum first down on the seat, then swing both legs in. However getting out is VERY painful. If it's that bad I just can't even drive the car

I was waiting while my SLC was in the car wash, and the bloke behind in a slightly battered Renault Modus got out and said that he'd bought a new AMG C series Coupé six months ago, but that he could hardly ever drive it because of his bad back.

I asked how long he's had his bad back, and he replied that it had been troubling him on and off for the last 10 years. So I asked him why he'd not bought himself the C400 executive line model with comfy seats, comfy suspension and 17 inch wheels, instead of a model with sports seats, sports suspension and 19 inch wheels.

He replied that he preferred the look of the AMG models.....

After retiring from rugby having played front row mainly I had some back/sciatic issues. None at all during my playing days. The doc said it was lack of movement after the sport activities. He suggested keeping active with stretching, walking, swimming etc..
my last job involved sitting at consols in police ops. Not good. Back issues started to occur. We eventually had a stand up consol put in and rotated using it. I also started "desk exercises" to keep flexibility.
I play golf and walk, either carrying the bag or a trolley. No way will I use a buggy regularly. A decent warm up before playing is also a MUST.
Nowadays I do stiffen up when doing heavier manual jobs but that is simply lactic build up.

I have a 1980 +8 with fixed back bucket seats, no reclining. The ones it came with. I have covered huge mileage in a day in these over the years, 600 miles plus several times without any problems. Yet modern recliners in mercedes, audi, porsche give me stiff back issues.
