+1. It was a great car. In the mid 90s I had a really beautiful example, a 3,5 V8 on carbs. It's first owner (oop in North Yorkshire) had lavished nothing but love and attention on it; when I had it it was still like a new car, though it was 15 years old.

Some little scrotes stole it from outside my house and used it for a demolition derby. They smashed it into 17 other cars; the engine eventually seized as they had holed the radiator. When I went to see it in the car pound of the local gendarmerie to get out my personal effects I could have cried. The gendarme said I should see the other 17 cars, that it was a real testament to what a solid car the series 1 rangie was. The only silver lining was that the perpetrators (who were never caught) didn't hurt anyone. Not a happy day for my insurer either.

The early RRs were elegant simplicity, which is why we like them, but modern RRs are nothing more than fancy bum warmers.

That is a dreadful story Giles and it must have been heartbreaking at the time, they achieve silly prices nowadays too.
At least you enjoyed one for a while thumbs.

Very true I can guess already the people in the village that will be getting one of these shortly - they have the Evoque at present, but it will be so "last year" in a moment I suspect.

I like Simon's tarts handbag.

Must confess I'm a bit confused where it fits in the range and why. Guessing it's between the Ecock & the sportless Sport. Four different models all capable of climbing kerbs outside schools?

On the Land Rover side I agree the back end of the new Disco is not as pretty as the back end of a bus.
