Howard...
really? Did Friday traumatise you so much?
Suplex front end and 5 link rear. Brake reaction bars. Luggage rack and spare wheel.
If you want a good DAB Radio then the MMC £5.00 antenna needs to be replaced by a descent Hirschman one and the £50.00 head unit with a £200.00 one.
Librand's door checks and trim strips.
Then it is simply a matter of playing, it is all about pleasing yourself.
Oh, and I still think the Plus 8 is a better car than the +4, but perhaps looses a little bit in the "totally authentic"bit.
A 2 wheel analogy: The +4 is a Royal Enfield, the Plus 8 a 1200cc new Triumph Bonneville. Both are a trip into the past, one more pure but flawed.

Of course the Plus 8 is a better car - after all its designed 40/50/60?? years later. But the trad, particularly if I go back a few years to say the duratec engined ones, has three big advantages for me. The first is the lack of electronics and therefore the ability to avoid dealerships. The second is the ability to tune and fettle. The third is a sensible performance level . But before this goes any further I did say "just suppose". And the Ferrari always was agreed with SWMBO as a two year toy. Its all about useability really. And the replacement choice is between something modern like an F type or at the other extreme a Morgan. We shall see but window shopping is fun and I enjoy talking about it.

Why flawed? And I'd disagree the plus 8 is a better car than a plus 4, very different yes but not necessarily better? All depends on what the buyer/owner wants.
I'd rather have the plus 4 over the 'new' 8 any day.

I'd rather have the plus 4 over the 'new' 8 any day. Yes but to some the old +8 is a better car than the +4. Ive had 3 4/4. 1 +4 2+8, and the old +8 wins every time....Thats just me.

I am sure it is the new +8 that Peter J is referring to. He has one and a splendid car it is. I've ridden in it at some speed and nearly bought the factory demo car until they sold it under me to a dealer. " Better" depends on your point of view. To me it's silly to think that sliding pillars and solid back axles of the Trad are in any sense a match for the technology of modern vehicles. But that isnt the point Of the Trad is it ? Its not meant to be a moidern car but to hark back to a previous era. It might have been a sports car then, but it isnt now. Its a liveable with classic IMO. Anyway, I thought that the +4 was a nice compromise that really hit the mark. I only wonder how many miles long a journey would have to be before the fun quirks of its design turned into irritating issues. At a guess somewhere between 100 and 200 miles. And before anyone rises in high dudgeon, it was about that distance for the Lotus and not much more for the Ferrari. You have to admit that when it comes to longer journeys there is no substitute for the air con, cruise control, auto box and quietness of the modern large saloon car Preferably with someone else driving.

Air con, rarely ever needed, at least in the uk. Cruise same as too much traffic or I'm on B roads. Auto, much prefer manual. Quietness leads to boredom. I always looked forward to long journeys in my cars, all part of the adventure, otherwise might as well take the train!

Agree with Steve on this. OK, when I was using a car for work, it was a different matter. However, most of my journeys now are either social or purely for fun, so the 4/4 suits me fine. For all other motoring I use either the lovely Lady Budster's Fiat Panda, or my rather excellent Citroen DS3 Cabrio.
