My M3W has finally got into a garage in Provence after a two and a bit year wait, while we owners organised a new service dealer. There is a very long list of major work required on my Mog. While checking the chassis very carefully for cracks (the folk are basically historic race car dealers and restorers), I am delighted they have not found any cracks but have found quite a lot of paint loss and surface corrosion. I have put a call in to the factory about this but surprise, surprise, have not heard back from them. Given that the car is only used in the summer months in the south of France, where today the humidity is 31% and kept in a dehumidified classic car store over the winter, if any M3W was not going to get chassis corrosion, you would think it was this one. Do I just say give the bits you can see a good scrub, inert with phosphoric acid and repaint or should the chassis be stripped out, sand blasted and powder coated. I would add some photos but the max file size now appears to be 1KB, which would be meaninglessly small.

Not answering your rust question but with regards to pictures most people open a photobucket or similar webphoto storage account and upload pictures there.
Using the photobucket img box to the bottom left of each picture when singularly viewed on the web. After you click the box to the left of the word "img" it copies a link to your pc for that picture.
After you do this you go back to the message you are writing on TM and paste that link on to the talkmorgan message. This allows the picture to be displayed on your message without uploading the picture to talkmorgan. I think you can do 5 links on each message.

Eddie, I picked up one of the rare Mac Trojans from a photo storage site, the one that begins with "fl", so I am now extremely wary of photo storage sites. I am sure I used to be able to upload bigger photos than 1KB, so has this changed recently?
On the chassis rust, I will probably recommend that the garage uses a product like Loctite 7503, after cleaning off all the visible rust. The problem is you don't know what is going on inside the chassis tubes. The old TVR problem: Rusting from the inside out.

My first chassis (a 2012) I did the anti corrosion wax treatment inside the tubes, never quite got round to doing it on the second chassis but did have a look inside several of the tubes on the third (and current!) chassis with a borescope. The signs of brown-ness that I saw did rather encourage me to repeat the treatment with another can of Dynax S50. I'm sure your garage will be able to sort out the problem areas on the outside and get whatever their wax preference is into the tubes to at least slow the internal corrosion process. Stopping carbon steel from corroding is a bit harder than slowing it down unfortunately.
If it is any consolation one of my upcoming jobs is sorting out the stone chips on the forward sides of the wishbones and the cross tube under the engine.

That is odd. My 2013 show no signs of rust. But it is always stored inside when not in use.

Sadly now that the engine has been removed, it can be seen that the chassis is cracked all the way through and will have to be replaced. Since the car is already pretty much all in bits, I have asked if RD Racing can replace the chassis. This is the sort of work they are very qualified to do. It seems stupid to have to reassemble the car to have it shipped back to the UK, only to have to take it apart again. I understand that Morgan do not pay for the transit costs which will be in excess of €2000. I expect that "no" will be the answer for me, which will be a total waste of my money of around €3000 for the re-assembly and transport. I am actually pretty angry about this. Firstly the totally incompetent and useless previous local Morgan service agent, who messed me about for well over a year, failing to check the car when I first asked in August 2015. Secondly having spent a lot of money on work to date on the car, which is now pretty much money p****d away. I wonder if anyone has taken Morgan to court to try and recover all the costs of the chassis replacement. If nothing else it would be covered by EU consumer legislation. The car has only done 6500km.

Bugger. My first cracked/broken chassis was found when the engine was out for the original failed compensator in the dealer's workshop in Perth. I can only assume that it went back to the factory in a state of disassembly, I don't actually know. This was of course all within the UK. The second cracked chassis I found while in my lock-up in Aberdeen and the factory sent a box trailer up to collect it but it was at least driveable at that point for getting it in the trailer. In both cases my only specific out of pocket expenses were for getting me down to Perth to pick it up. I didn't chase them for these costs as it was actually easier for me if it went to Perth and could then be picked up at my convenience.

Very sad news, I assume it is in the region of the top rear wishbone mounting again? Morgan have usually been pretty reasonable about chassis replacements for these cracks, I am sure they are well aware they are on shaky ground if they don't do the right thing. Hopefully this will be resolved although I suppose most of the summer will be gone by the time it is.

So despite the numerous cracked chassis on early cars and the fact that cracks are inevitable on these vehicles I assume Morgan are still not recalling the affected cars ?
Or is it just cars in overseas markets they are ignoring ?
I can't believe they are getting away with this and I have to say most of you are far more patient and tolerant than I would be.
I'm pleased they've managed to buy the factory back but disgusted at they way they treat customers.
Their customer service and parts supply ethos is pathetic and a disgrace to the supportive company Morgan once were.
It would be encouraging if more of you who cheer when the MMC do something right were impartial enough to post , or even tolerate, criticism when they do something wrong.
