Hi Simon

This month's TRAction, the club magazine of the TR Register has a TR2, TR3, 3xTR3A, 4xTR4, 4xTR4A, TR5, 10xTR6 and a TR7 for sale. Although I have a TR6, I'd suggest you look at the 4 or 4A.

Soft top TR7's provide the best value, TR5's have the looks of the TR4 but the power of the TR6. AS so few were built they go for fancy prices which would buy you a MOG.

Personally, I'd stick with a MOG.

I don't have access to a scanner at the moment or I would have attached a copy of the classified Ads page.

Thanks Ken.

the TR5 and TR4/A are the ones I would be interested in. Viper (forum member) used to have a one owner TR6 with 12,000 miles on the clock - it was stunner (never restored, just taken care of) - and I know which dealer has it. He is asking too much for it but if I wanted a TR6, I know where to look; however, they just don't do it for me.

If there looks like a nice TR5/4, which has had money dumped on it and is up for sale at a reasonable price, perhaps you can drop me the contact details.

Update -

I took a trip out to look at a few MGBs today - one in particular was the main reason for the trip. It was a 1966, owned by an older chap (in his late 70's), in a beautiful gulf blue colour. He has decided he finds it too difficult to get in and out of, hence the sale; he has placed it with an MG specialist garage for sale. It was restored by a known MG company (with a good rep) about 5-years ago but you can tell he hasn't looked after the details since then (it could do with a very very good clean, wax and polish). Mechanically it is perfect and cosmetically, nearly there (but then I am picky). They had various cars for sale but this was by far the nicest. I took a drive in another MGB while down there and found it to be very enjoyable.

They have an MGC for sale, which has recently been restored. I am hoping to view and drive the blue MGB and the black MGC back to back in the near future (the C was at Silverstone today, hence not being there).

At the moment, the MGs are definitely ticking the box but I am still open to other options (and still love the TRs (as above) and the Austin Healey 3000 Mk3 (although the price of these puts the whole idea into a different realm and contradicts the title of this thread grin2)

IMHO, once we move it on to Healeys, it has got to be the 100/6 but, as you say, in that territory the title of the thread just doesn't apply ( well, not to my piggy bank anyway!) smile

MGB would be my choice from AH/MGB/MGC trio, I'm not a fan of 6 cyl austin truck engine, have you seen one close to? the cyl head alone is nearly 5ft long and must weigh the same as an entire MG Midget, it makes lots of furious noise but most of the power is used in propelling its mighty mass.

Just back from Silverstone, and have copied this to Simon. It presents well, good panel fit, and is tax exempt.

A good day out. I'm starting to get the hots for a Lotus Elise. Should I seek help? grin2

By the way I once helped a mate remove his MGC engine and gearbox in one piece. It's quite a job.........

Unless it is a more recent one with the Toyota engine, what you should be seeking is a very large wahrehouse full of cylinder head gaskets!! stirpot

Cheers Dave,

Hmm. 1.8R with Toyota, but the Sc is a bit tempting. Mind you there were two series 1 Elises at Silverstone today and they have aged really well. A very attractive shape, and I can't understand now why I didn't like them when they were launched.

We also saw two new MG6's ......... scared

Oh dear..... sick2

I didn't like it at all at launch Kin, but now it looks 'cute', so I suppose I agree. It's very similar styling to a Ginetta from a slightly earlier era. Of course, the 2010 facelift has gone back that way to give it more of an Evora look, and the PH Lotus boys don't seem to like it much. If I go that way it will be the waspish looking last version with the Toyota engine. Lets hope it can stop.......... But first I will need to appraise the luggage space. And before anybody chips in, in my past I often took four adults away for a week in a Metro, so I'm good at packing stuff in - and no roofrack. grin2
