I suggest you try a later Elise Series 2 with the small Toyota engine (1.8 with around 139 hp). This one is a much better car than the older ones in term of finish (build quality) and reliability. And power is no issue even with this engine. The SC has a lot of problems as reported by people who own one. It should fit anyone up to 185 - 190 cm. I am 1.80 and usually move the seat two notches to the front. Mine is 3.5 years now, and the glue smell which was there initially has completely gone. Otherwise the car is quite cheap to run. And it is a lot of fun to drive, good even in bad weather.

Good advice - thanks....... I'm small in stature - 5' 8" (can't convert to metric in my head). When the time comes I'll be testing one - might also look at last of line Griffith, but haven't ruled out another Mog either due to fun factor of adding bits. It's funny how there's such pleasure in planning "the next car" eh???

Yes, planning the next car is tempting. To me the impression gets stronger and stronger that my next car will be real OLD, like an MG TC or something of that kind, maybe even an Amilcar or so. I´d love a Morgan Threewheeler, but the prices are not very reasonable in comparison with decent TCs (just my personal view). Does anyone have something of the breed mentioned above for sale? By the way: Dave, the Elise can certainly be equipped with some add-ons, but my experience is that anything deteriorates the complete set-up of the car. Mine is completely standard as it came from the factory (As Colin Chapman intended it to be ). I even stick to the original tyres and the recommended pressure. It just fits. Have fun, Andy

I know this is almost totally off the wall, but given that we have given honourable mention to such a wide range of cars, what about this one. Mitsubishi Starion,2.6 litre intercooled turbo. ( Yeh, I know all the quips about the letter 'L' and the Japanese alphabet):
I really really wanted a Starion when they 1st came out (2 litre turbo not 2.6 6) after test driving a Lancer 2000 Turbo that was dynamite!! My Golf Gti (mk1 1.6 1981) had cost £5700 and the Lancer was £7700, that £2k gulf was HUGE and unachievable
Cheers

While not a sports car and not even sure if available in Europe, the Ford Thunderbird was a nice tourer type vehicle although not a hardened sports car...price should be reasonable even for a pristine one. However..... Boshly the Great (as in 'Great minds think alike') had already said: ..... 'new' ford Thunderbird ....

Holy thread resurrection! The worst part is that I still haven't sorted out my open aired driving experience. Still, I am working on that

Peace...
