I think the head of this school is a little like Mrs May - out of step with current thinking on the street.

Lads 10 - Head 0. + Girls 5 for lending their spare skirts.

Ha! Yes, I picked up on this at lunchtime over at the oldies place with the Daily Moan. The head doesn't come out well, does she..? Lot's of blustering & backtracking with talk of new 'amendments' to the uniform policy.

Is there a Talk Morgan skirt policy..?. Sorry, wrong thread..!!

It's possibly the best lesson they will learn all year. How to challenge authority when it is wrong - by which I mean inflexible, unfair and disproportionate. If everyone took this view, we may get a better society.

As an aside, my 18 YO schooleaver son went to work for the first time today, on a building site. I hope it lives up to his expectations and I did warn him. "Dad, it can't be any worse than school" was his response.

When I left school I really did expect work to be better. Most of the adults I had come across seemed to be, well, adult.

I had a huge shock at work. It was far worse than school with petty mindedness, cliques and bullying.

People don't change when they grow up do they.

I couldn't wait to get out in the work place and thoroughly enjoyed my time 38 years of it in Engineering with a great bunch of individuals.

Once into semi retirement I joined the Civil Service and as you say just like being back at school, pretty dire but it served it's purpose for me.

Good for them!
I remember my time at Llanelli Boys Grammar.
Blazers, ties compulsory. School caps too but only on the way to and from school.
The caps thing was a bit odd as some boys had "big hair" and a cap perched on top was a sight to see. Some boys had remnants of caps that had seen better days. The caps rule was ditched during my 5th ish year. We were allowed shorts.
It was a boys school so no girls to borrow from. innocent
We did have close links with the girls school though, mainly at 6th form when we had joint concerts, fundraisers, discos...
I met swmboat one of the discos.

It's strange, I like a bit of conformity of a dress code when it is part of tradition and sometimes more when it's completely pointless.

It may be a tiny bit of elitism with a touch of the vintage ethic harking back to times when rules, traditions and social etiquette were important

That part of me says - bloody kids, should be made to wear long neatly pressed trousers, tie and shirt buttoned up AND blazer on at all times even in the most searing heat and not challenge the uniform policy and authority on pain of expulsion.

But

There is a large part of me that is definitely a non conformist and rebel that says good on 'em. Wear your skirts with pride and challenge the system
