Could the front cabin guys get up and walk around aft at all, it makes me wonder how they managed to stay awake.
Absolutely no room to move around at all. The access ladder comes up behind he pilot's seats. there is then a smaller ladder which enables you to climb up and squeeze through a gap not much more than 12" wide between the seats in order to sit down. Either side of the main access ladder there's a platform about 2 foot square which enables the rear crew to access their seats. 3 abreast, facing backwards, the outer two swivel to enable them to squeeze in. Once you're in, you're going nowhere until you land. I'm a chunky 14 stone, and I reckon I would be at the absolute limit to get in. Anyone heavier, over about 6 foot tall would have no chance of folding themselves into the available space. Apparently the crews with the Blue Steel stand-off nukes were told that in the event of a nuclear war, once they had launched their missiles they were to turn and head south as far as they could and hope to find somewhere to land in friendly territory - the assumption being that there would be nowhere for them to come home to. As you say, sobering stuff. Amazing what these guys did to protect our freedom it sounds so uncomfortable a plane to be in . Iv'e just listened to the Corbyn rhetoric from Glastonbury and feeling more than a little annoyed..

We had a short visit to Vienna's city center yesterday evening. At sunset sky colours turned to an amazing panpoly. We drove home before the rain set in.

Lovely run up to Oxborough Hall morning and picnic lunch with around 12 Mog owners including an ARP4 owner who happened to be sitting next to me so I could ask him about the car , everyone was drooling over it in the car park all in black with cream seats , didn't realise there are two tuning choices 250 or 280 bhp .

Met up with Stringers Best Mate, Wirewheel and partners for brunch at The Cotswold Foodstore near Stow on the Wold. Great spot and good grub. Missed the threatening rain clouds!

We were one of 50 Morgans who enjoyed the sunshine at the Fossils Hive Beach picnic. Then, after dinner with a group of Morgan friends, it was a drive home as the sun set. Brilliant

I watched the Guy Martin prog about the history of the last flight of a Vulcan. It was on Ch4 the other night. Thoroughly enjoyable. An awesome machine but oh so complex. When in uni we visited St Athan to see their maintenance process for them. HUGE computer print out of the jobs based on critical path methods to manage it. When she did her last flight Ray and myself parked near the end of St Athan runway on the roadside. A good crowd built up. Bang on time she came over the Severn crossing down the estuary, banked to approach, did a fairly low pass with power to generate the characteristic sound. Bloody awesome view as she passed directly overhead then climbed away. The crew interviews brought home the realities of the Cold War era. I was young during the Cuban missile crisis when, at one stage, the Vulcans and US bombers had engines running in readiness. So so close to war, yet the commitment of the crews was there, knowing their own survival chances were slim.
