Should I ?

Buy this bike?

I rode it today.
It is everything I wanted my 2004 Thruxton to be but it never was...
Looks like a Thruxton should, especially the tank. I love the fake Amal carbs.
Not so obvious are the alloy wheel rims and alloy swing arm.

The bike has modern electronics, including the traction control, ABS and three traction/stability modes, rain, street and track.

Then the modern components...

USD Showa ?
Ohlins piggy-back rear shocks?
Brembo front discs and pads?

All a bit too modern? I don't think so....and they transform the bike. The ride is supple, it corners and turns in more like a sports bike...

Anyway after 5 years away from bikes it was an absolute delight to be back on 2 wheels. I've not had so much fun for a while. I love Tarka, but it is still a car....

I stopped riding in 2013 because of neck/back problems: these seem to be resolved. So, I'm very, very tempted to return to biking.

Advice please!

Peter, is this one of the 2016 ex demo models on the market? If so you had better be quick as i am looking to trade in my 2014 Thruxton for one of them, no brainier.

Add a side-car and it becomes that three-wheeler you've been hankering after! Two itches scratched in one go... somestick

It really looks the business. It has the same appeal as the Indian Enfield but with modern ECU brakes etc.
I found that the man maths did not add up for the use I was giving a bike. On the odd occasion that I do ride I really enjoy it but I'm no longer interested in long distance bike touring (that is why I bought the Mog) and I worry about being able to hold up a bike with my bad leg.

With increased traffic density, intolerance on the road, insurance and tax costs, etc. I doubt I will go back to regular riding. At the most I may get a small bike for those occasions when I want to slip into town for something and can't be bothered to search for a parking space.

No neck pain this morning... joy joy

I'll leave it to the weekend to be certain my neck is OK and then, in all probability, do a deal.

The Triumph dealer has one coming in this week, exactly as I rode the demmo bike. If the price is £11k or less then there could be a deal.

The local Honda dealer has one, in red with 5000 miles and they want £10,450. I think it is worth a look!

No need to worry, there are of used ones plenty about: nationally on Auto Trader 21 Thruxtons including 16 Thruxton Rs.
The Ex demmo bikes save you about £2000 and 3000 to 5000 mile used bikes go down a £3500 saving.
