I still seem to have my free add riddled email posting links correctly so far.

The most annoying thing is that the TM site is now going to be riddled with broken links as I cannot see us all

1. Paying, having been offended with this move.
2. Going back and editing all the posts to fit the new links in.

Very aggravating.

Nothing in life is free but the Internet seems to think it is fair to start there and then stiff you when they run out of VC cash.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Just read a few internet posts about Photobucket and I think many are correct that this is last ditch attempt to get revenue quickly which means that they are the verge of disappearing so I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to pay the 'ransom'

I'm searching for alternatives

Mine still seems to be working ok, but I've opened a tiny pic account in anticipation.

As a trial run, I've uploaded a photo of dear old Treacle being ferocious. It seemed to upload a lot quicker than photo bucket.

And as the edit facility is only open for a few hours, users wont be able to do that anyway...

I agree with your analysis and proposed course of action.

Until I get the demand for money with menaces I'll carry on using them. I only put photos on their site for the express purpose of 3rd party hosting, all my photos are safely stored elsewhere.
The ones I upload are all less than 1MB and the only place that I link to is here. So perhaps with only about half my allowed storage used I'm not yet on their horizon.

They would seem to have "shot themselves in the foot" with this $400 demand for unlimited hosting.
If they had a graduated scale with a much lesser limit for limited sharing and using files of less than 1mb I might have been convinced, but $400? No way.

Giles,

well that was quick and painless. Very much faster upload than Photobucket!

The only difference is that Tiny adds the [img] codes, duplicating the TM activity.

TinyPic is owned by Photobucket, maybe not the best alternative hosting site.

The same for me and the site says that I have used 19% of my allocation and yet I was given he chop last week. As previously mentioned, I suspect it's because you are at least on a paid plan, albeit not the correct one, that has given you a stay of execution.

Not sure why JohnV6 is still working though.

I am now getting "spam" emails from Photobucket and their partners trying to sell me other rubbish. The ads on their site were bad, this is worse.

There is a setting to switch off emails from "partners" but whether that works or not I couldn't say. You could try resetting your email address to, for instance, abuse@photobucket.com

I have been trying to download all my pictures from Photobucket so I have the reduced sized versions in their respective folders (one per forum). It is a very painful process! Apart from having to clear aside multiple adverts to get to the right place, the download rarely works first time, or even second or third. I have been doing this now for two days and still haven't completed the task.

I had planned to remove all my pictures and delete my account, but in retrospect I think I'll just leave them all there and see what happens.
