I have been reading the bevel box threads and I am still dreaming about a ride in the M3W where my attention to the sounds are elsewhere.

I know it is my own hearing condition that has made this a distracting situation. Has anyone found a reliable cure for the chattering and whining of these units? And at what price?

Here are the three categories of bevel box:

1) Quiet when new - remains quiet
2) Quiet when new - gets noisy over time then stays noisy
3) Noisy when new - stays noisy

I don't think that anyone has come up with a proven way to reverse the noisiness except by swapping out the BB and hoping that you get a category 1 unit.

p.s. Mine seems to be cat 1 (so far) - so they do exist!

Not your own hearing - mine is fine, and I find it incredibly annoying between 45 and 55. Even the Stage 1 exhaust doesn't drown it out :-)

I can't imagine why engineering is unable to come up with a quieter BB. I've never heard such screaming resonance from a presumably well engineered gear box. Something is clearly wrong in the gear angles or set-up that would cause such a sound at certain speeds.

G56 had posted some pics a bit ago, that when I looked at them, seemed to show clearly mis-adjusted gear engagement, as the wear was all toward the one side of the ring gear. I commented on it, and they had indicated they were making progress, but no news yet I guess.

Does Morgan even see this as an issue?

I've thought about this and done some things like using Red Line 75W140 gear oil in the bevel box. It helps but not by much. Mine was never a real problem as the whine of it did not drown out the spinning of the drive shaft, the belt noise of just moving air, the valves up front, the whine of the transmission and now that I have the camshaft cover set off I can hear the noise of that!

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: I get worried when I don't hear something. It either broke or fell off. I also get worried when one thing starts dominating the action.

It's just a noisy car!

650 miles on mine. The first 20 minutes are a joy Quiet until it warms up, then it ruins the fun. 30 minutes of screaming and im ready to park it. Drowns out the exhaust and is annoying as fingernails on a chalk board. Earplugs help a little but not enough. It sounds like tne differential in my old 1951 Ford did just before it spat all the pinion gear teeth out. Im open to any suggestions. Im hoping the 1000 mile fluid change helps. Id write a thousand dollar check this instant if it would fix it. I wonder if my dealer could disassemble it and have it professionally shimmed.

I've got no point of reference as I've not ridden in another one(except for the test drive, which I don't remember how bad the noise was). It becomes annoying above 70ish MPH. I tend to drive on twisties at slower than that, and with earplugs. The earplugs drown most of it out while letting in the motor noise.

My bevel box was screaming like a banshee. Years ago the diffs in the old cars used to whine and scream so we removed them, had them lapped and refitted them with pleasing results. The bevel box in the 3 wheeler is no different. There is a simple solution. Remove the bevel box send it to be stripped down and lapped reinstall it and you have a quiet bevel box. The dealer here in Brisbane (3 point classic) did this to their demo 3 wheeler and my 3 wheeler and they are as quiet as a mouse.

After 7000 miles my BB is definitely more quiet. Still makes gear noise, but does not scream any longer. I wear ear plugs when on the highway but have made short runs with out the ear plugs and noticed the difference. My car now has a different gear noise, sounds like a turbo spooling up as speed increases, but not loud enough to be annoying.
