Good grief:

On a wet day I worked out the cost per mile in 12 years of ownership, for my 4/4.
This excludes fuel and RFL, but includes all servicing, a new hood, a few accessories and a bit of paint rectification.
19 pence / mile.

I don't have a clue on my running costs, for me, it costs what it costs. It would cost me a tremendous amount of pleasure if I did'nt have it.
Shall we go for drive, where? We are going in the Morgan it does'nt matter.

I agree the cost isn't the point but just for interest and very approximately. ....

Depreciation( based on assumed current value) 16pence
Fuel (40mpg av and 115 pence per litre) 13pence
Mtce (includes partial loom rewire, 2 sets of kingpins
Remedial work on paint corrosion new calipers and wheel cylinders, 2 sets of tyres etc..) 11pence
Tax swear 3.3 pence

A bit higher than I had expected but not too bad 43 pence per mile. Not much for a lot of joy

To be fair to kriss, he didn't say whether or not he was concerned by the running costs or whether or not it was an important part of ownership. He may have just done it out of curiosity whilst on a long railway journey somewhere. I've always had a thing about mpg - on the basis that the better the mpg for any given power output or overall performance, the more efficient the engine/vehicle. My mpg-ometer is currently showing 42.6 mpg after a nice day out with the wife. It goes down a bit when I'm on my own for some reason!

I have noticed a very similar effect.

I find it curious that nearly everyone who comes up and asks me about my M3W asks about the fuel mileage. As if you would be driving one of these in order to save money on fuel.

Have to come up with some off-the-wall humorous answer, like: "gets 8 miles to a can of beans" or something.
