Super pics Dave and well written up. First time I've seen this thread and the pics.
A few questions please if I may, which may have already been answered in the multiple pages of posts.
1) The 3 thou wear your digi caliper shows at the bottom of the pin. Is it that 3 thou of wear that dictated the need for a change of pins? i.e, were symptoms showing on the road, or was it a strip down and inspection and the discovery of .0003" missing metal which prompted new one's as a precaution?
2) What regime do you think was used for this car in its years of greasing? Remote greasing?, Greasing top and bottom nipples?, greasing mainly bottom only? Minimal wear at the top seems to back up the importance of what guys say about the lower grease points being the more critical.
3) I notice the small bottom "helper" spring caked in grease before strip down. Is this just residue being forced past the seal above? Or is it purposely put there? I've been keeping mine dry so far.
Loads more I'd be interested to ask but I won't bore you with it.
Again nice one
