Great thread Guys, let's hear more about them. I've always avoided them because of their reputation, but love the look of them. Tell us about the QP Viper as that also looks fabulous. So far I've not heard anything against them? Brian

Brian Me too, tell us about it as i nearly bought one when it was first launched, very distinctive styling, sumptuous interior, and of course that Ferrari engine under the bonnet I think it came with 3 or 5 yrs warranty and a 3yrs free servicing . It was a tempting package, but in the end it was the thought of potentially losing 35-40k in three yrs that had put me off....

The older QP had a Sh1t Gearbox they tried to do too much, the latest release are much better they now do 2 basic types the auto and the duo, I think for a big exec car it should be an auto this is the better box and drives much smother also you don't have to replace the clutch as often. The QP is a new angle in big exec cars and has caused quite a stir with Aston, and Ferrari, working on 4 door cars.
One of the main reasons I think Morgan owners like Maseratti's is because they aren't that common, it gives you a feel on individuality.

The 3200 with it's boomerang lights was a very pretty car when it was released. It was such a shame when they changed those lights to homologate it for North America.

Those lights are one of the details that I think mean that at some point the 3200 will become to be regarded as a proper classic. In the end a lot will just fade away as the cost of upkeep is exorbitant compared to the cost of purchase. Still I'd love to get my old one back someday, just at a point when I have the resources to spare!

Yet now cited as one of, if not THE, least depreceating luxury car Friend of mine bought one of the first, had 4 electrical faults in 4 months and then sent it back to HR Owen - only lost 7k but did threnten legal aCtion I love it! A friends business partner has a 4200 Gran Sport, lots of faults in his 4-6 month ownership - including multiple clutches, etc. The dealer ended up taking it back because it was quite obvious the car was a lemon. Shame but as with all cars, you get a few rotten ones in each batch

I love the gransport - and I'm aware of a couple out there that haven't had any ral problems - so does sound like a lemon.
It's unfortunate for Maserati their reliability rating is always so bad from people - the cars themselves are more often than not (as mine and Neil's 3200's) rock solid - it's just that the cost of general fettling etc is equivalent to a Ferrari (it's all Ferrari parts after all!) but the performance is stunted because nothing can be 'better' than a Ferrari....
Put 550bhp in the new Maserati coupe not the same 400 as the old one.... Thing is if they do this then the 612 suddenly appears redundant at 200k....

Funny you should mention the 612 - Steved told me about how he and his family took a look in the 612 and the Quattroporte and actually felt the Q was a nicer place to sit - better materials, etc.
