Assuming we are in agreement with Keith's (burgundymog) findings, it would seem the ECU forwards the accurate wheel pulses to the VDO speedo head. Its their internal computation into an analogue speed display that seems to be at error therefore not the computation into digital odometer display and trip.

Not sure if your solution would correct one without the other.

Another kink in the thread... I had to fix the wiring harness to the pick up on the right front wheel. This is a major fault in that the physical wires are as tiny as they can get and very easy to break. My first break came from the zip tie that the people at Morgan used to fasten the wire bundle to the brake line. It cut the wires. My speedo dropped to zero and the turn signals would not shut off when activated. The turn signals will only shut off while the wheel is in motion but it won't at a stop. So this is a clue. It happened again as the wire about 2 cm from the first break was cracked open due to stress. I cleaned up everything, stripped the wires and used solder and electrical tape to finish, then used a bit of black duct tape to wrap the entire plug assembly to the brake line.

What Morgan used may very well work in a protected environment but not in this case. The wiring needs to be of a lower gauge and wrapped in a flexible casing that will protect it. The plug used needs to be water proof and is not. This is in an exposed situation subject to wind buffeting, wheel vibration, rain and heat from the exhaust pipes that are inches away.

Someone dropped the ball on this.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.
